Everyone seen item 111804329824 on ebay? If you bid on this beware, the buyer already cancelled the same lot earlier when nobody was bidding, sold me the Gurney car and then backed out! Was on cloud 9 for a couple hours at least …

here is the direct link:

http://www.ebay.com/...=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

Be careful!

Nothing suspicious about this Markus. He cancelled the auction because I wrote to him and pointed out that it didn't make any sense to leave the photo of the Gurney car in there if it was already sold, and that he should also think about putting chassis photos in there.

Amazing the number of sellers who list slot cars without showing the chassis...

I wrote him also, Don. Same complaint you had about the pic showing that car and where did that car go! I think the guy is giving up $500, probably a lot more by selling all that stuff in one lot. The price will almost certainly mean the buyer will be a seller that will want/have to sell most of the stuff to pay for that big a lot. Most of us will not be in contention for that group as it is just a lot more stuff then I would want to have to list and sell. He has frozen out all the guys that might be willing to bid the $500 or so on that one car or the $40-$80 so many of the other cars might bring.

Nothing suspicious? The guy is selling something he already sold to me? Ebay nearly pulled the listing when I asked them about it. He is now on warning too. Deals made through ebay, auction or email, are binding. Outside of that it's just bad style to promise something and then go back on it. This guy is a flake, no other way about it.

Yep, it will be like that for most of us. A dozen cars and at that price is just too much for those of us who 1. already have a collection and 2. have wives. I offered him more than half of the starting price for one car, not having seen the underside or even a closeup, and told him he would easily get his asking price for the others alone. Now he will definitely end up with less money. Serves him right. Again, if anyone here is bidding on this, beware. If he sees a way to make a bit more (meaning if he realizes that the batch is worth less than the singles as we all know) he will back out on you too.

Was there a rear window on an orig cox gurney? Also, my brother used decals from an ebay seller and says the harvest motors is a tad long and covers the gas door....anyone making them scaled right ?

All the Harvest decals cover the gas opening and different people apply them differently. I cut them apart and put the gas filler in the middle of the two words. Maybe Don or the one of the guys with the Model Car and Racing mag that had the Gurney feature will scan the pix of the factory demo car to show decal placement. Seems like I remember the demo car had a light blue interior. Anybody have the pix from that issue? I have been painting the interiors either gray or silver in my cars.

Bruce Paterson has made the vac formed Gurney interiors and I got a few this week. They are good for any stock cars you might wish to actually build and race. The Cox drivers still fits, as does a Ford Galaxie dash. I also sent him the interior platform for one of the Hasegawa stockers. He sent a couple of those back and they will also fit into most stock car bodies.

In the above mentioned auction, I believe the guy left $400 or more on the table by listing it all together. With the recent sale of a painted Gurney being $500 or so, this one should have easily done $500 by itself. The other cars should have done another $500-$600. The guy sold it all in one swoop which made less work for him and he didn't have to try and figure out what each car was.

Do any of you guys have interest in the parts needed to convert the newly released AMT 66 into a Gurney clone?

Thanks Matt, I do have that issue of course and will try to remember to scan, but first have to reload photoshop...

I used a modern repro body done by the guy in Canada - he didn't have a repro interior, so included the kit interior, and I've actually gotten to like that... cut it down a bit and added a modified Cox driver (not the right one) - since it's not really stock anyway, I think I'll keep it that way. (also used Ulrich wheels and much prefer those to the Cox ones...).

You're right about the above-mentioned auction, but I'm sure a lot of sellers would rather avoid extra hassle, even if it costs them some money... Would have liked to see what was under the other cars, however, but didn't bother to email him again...

Matt, you're talking about the body parts to convert I take it? I'd be interested and my brother too.

Still don't have my scanner up and running, but just looked at the Model Car & Racing article on the Cox Gurney.

The color photo on the cover is on the right side (left hand side of the car), but the car doesn't have its Harvest Motors decal!

On the inside, the B&W photo shows the decal, which starts at the back door line and ends (the S in motors) right at the edge of the gas cap.

Hope that helps, can always take a photo if that's better...

Don

PS: lots of neat cars in this issue, January 67, still before the crash:

Monogram Indy Lotus 38

Testor Marauder

Cox Gurney

K&B Sportsman

Strombecker P2 Ferrari

Figured it was better just to show the photos, without waiting...

Thanks Don, those pix show it pretty well. Was the interior light blue? I usually do silver or gray, but seems like I remember that one being light blue. Maybe I'm dreaming. It's been a long time since I had that mag. I sold my set of MC&R, but it was probably the best of those mags at showing the new cars. Wish I still had those mags. I think I do have one issue somewhere. Was there only 8 issues?

9 issues in all Matt, from November 66 to April 68; mostly bimonthly, but the last came out 3 months after the previous one.

Kind of hard to tell the color from the cover, and it was probably a prototype anyway... Never saw one of those at the time - they were totally out of date!

Hi Bruce,

No original kit but I believe what I have is "Korrect". I'll be interested if this can be confirmed..........

My tire diameters are about 1 1/16" (1.070") for the FRONT and 1 1/8" for the REAR

Does anyone know if there is a urethane or silicone tire this size for the gurney rear wheels? Without traction I won't be I'll struggle getting up to the speed needed to crunch it.
