I generally order on-line and the stuff shows up in the mail box a few week days later.

Me too, and the stuff arrives in about 2 weeks.

Also buy stuff from PCH as well, and it's even quicker.

Not quite sure how to respond to that Barney. :pardon:

Okay, got the tires trued up to 13/16" which provides an exact .062 under the motor bracket. Going to run more than a hundred laps before measuring the tire wear and that should give us a little info on how many races we can go on a set of tires.

Posted Image

Now, a little info that might be of interest to those planning on building an entry.
Two problems with these Choti bodies are in the area of the front where there is precious little room for the wheels to spin unmolested...

Posted Image

... and in the rear where the gear seems to be wearing a hole in the body at the back despite there seeming to be plenty of clearance.
Posted Image

For those who do not recognize the car, it's my Dynamic Challenge proxy entry w/Choti body, which has now successfully run 9 races and the forensics of which might be of interest. Seems the aero bodies do work since the only way the body can bow down and touch the gear like that is through aerodynamics. So, I suggest that a fix in the rear be added to each body or chassis in order to support this area. Got it? Because I'm not going to mention it again.

As for the body clearance up front, well, here is a tip. I warmed up the handle of my #11 Xacto knife with the soldering iron till it was warm enough to put some blister-bumps in the body. Now there's clearance for the front axle.

3.Any axle diameter allowed, with 1/8" rear and 1/16" drop front axle ENCOURAGED!

13. No parts or bits or technology manufactured after December 31, 1970, allowed. Only exceptions being consumables such as pick-up braids, motor brushes, and tire rubber, which mean: vintage wheels only. (If you need help finding wheels, ask someone.)

Hi Jairus,
in rule posting #3 you state any axle diameter,
and then again in rules posted in #13 it says Vintage wheels only.

Does this mean I can use 3/32 axle?
I have a pair of Steube rear wheels but not sure as to when they were placed on the market?

Thank You,for the clarification.

Most of the vintage pic's of the Deepdish Choti's used, H.O. front wheel, the wheel opennings are alway damaged :laugh2: Yes, I do have a 3 1/8" wide Deepdish design, that can stuck down to a 3" chassis :sun_bespectacled: it's all in the fine detail when viewing pic's- ( zoom that one flew right over the heads of most :laugh2: ) And Yes :victory: I can molded in custom front wheel wells bumps.. if requested... on any of the Deepdish designs.

Brian, I say 3/32" axles are legal because they were used way back at the beginning of Slot Cars. Might be that someone wants to pull wheels from a 1:32 car that has 3/32" axles. Innovation reigns supreme as long as it still looks like it came from 1970. And there were a lot of innovators in 1970.

As for the wheels. Post a pic of them and see what the guys say. Steve King posted a pic of some wheels he wanted to use (post #152). Since I am not totally sure exactly what was available regarding wheels, you guys get to help police things. So post a picture and ask the guys. I am sure someone will chime in and like I told Steve, if nobody says anything in a few days... they are legal!

That's the spirit Ray! :good:

Since the rules say no added aero, I just sent an email to One27Ray for a one winger. I ran all the choti versions and liked the basic version, I think #5 with one wing. Gotta have that one wing! It will be fun to see how the other versions work out, as i didnt think they handled all that well. Goes to show how much the body mattered in the late 60's. And thanks Jairus, for finalizeing the rules.

As for the Onewinger being raceable? The late Mr Franks, had a couple version of them I did for him. He said they ran pretty good on his King. :good:

I hereby officially protest any and all one wing bodies. This is obviously a trick. Jairus, please do not allow these last minute guys to skew the program. If you do, my entry will have full wings, full spoiler, and a diaplane, and I will claim the body man made it special for me. :diablo:

I'm with Paul. In 66-67 we ran #5 Chotis with a lexan wing. That wing made the difference between a winner an a loser. I have heard tell that one-wing bodies were made, but I never saw one. If the one wingers are still deemed legal, I think they will have a definite edge, and I will be giving Ray some business. I would like to see some vintage proof of the one winger. I will then shut my mouth and skulk back into my room to smell the intoxicating fumes of silver solder and flux.

Do you guys hate me?
*sigh*

Okay Pablo, I will ban it if you can prove to me that there is ANY advantage provided by a ONE wing car!

I watched Dave Larsen build a car over the course of months. He painted and eventually mounted a one wing Choti body on the chassis. It couldn't even make it under the bridge and was in no way any faster than any other Thingie including the Shinodas. He eventually gave the car to Harley or one of his buddies.
I think the design is silly and I've been promoting the best of the best in MY build, with no secrets, hoping to inspire and get you guys to think logically. Light weight with a solid deep dish body is the ONLY way to go. One wing does nothing but provide advertising space. It's like a London bus as far as I am concerned.
But, if you want to illuminate my mind then please feel free to try... because I have been thinking about this proxy since I built "Repelatron-Dynaslider" for the Dynamic Challenge. I picked the best body for a darned good reason in 2010!

Jairus out.

P.S. If you think it's so great, why ban it? Why not buy one from Ray and USE the darned thing.

No Jairus I do not hate you! Sheesh! You inspire me! What I am trying to point out is that>>>>

1: I never saw a one winger in 66-67
2. The choti #5 was the best of his bodies. It NEVER had one wing.
3. The #5 with one added lexan wing beat the ****king crap out of the #5 with no wing. Not to be controverisial , but on my 220 ft track with mostly left turns, any deep dish body held no accord to the basic choti with one wing. I ran them all, and perhaps its me, as I like a sorta loose racecar. Not trying to be arrogant, seriously, humble is an asset. but I really ( truely ) was there, and ran them all. My hope is to gather enough stuff to build exactly what we ran back then, and if it doesnt win, OK, it will be a glimpse into the past that I can be proud of.

J. I think rule 18 covers it. One-piece body only, no added spoilers wings or air dams allowed. I don't think that Ray's one-winger will be particularly quick and wouldn't run it myself, but it is a one-piece body so I wouldn't ban it. And anyway, why ban it if it does give an advantage??? I thought the idea was to look for any advantage and run the fastest balls out car you can build.

If we ban stuff just because there is no photographic evidence that it existed by 1970 then all we are really doing is running replicas, as opposed to running innovative cars in the spirit of the period. I know there are no period photos of the body I hope to have completed by next week (it didn't/doesn't exist) but I have designed it in the spirit of this proxy...ie balls-out with negative lift (hopefully hehe). Had I been around in the day I'm sure Id have come up with something similar (in the absence of added aero devices).

The same sort of arguement could be made for chassis design.

Just saying, : o)

I asked If we could run 3/32nd wheels,on the rear. Not knowing when these were made? other then I know there old! :)

Will it be all right to run these wheels? Not sure the old blue rubber will be any good? and If not,new rubber will be shod onto the rims.

Thank You.
