The only pinions in 6 tooth you can buy from a raceway are the angled ones.

Anytime the word "modern" is used to describe it... the answer will probably be no.
And why would anyone want an aluminum super thin nut up front when these cars are already too nose light?
Try this:
Posted Image
It's a "Dubro" set screw collar. The come about 4 to a pack and can be found in ANY hobby shop that sells model airplanes. They WERE available in 1970, are made of brass providing weight where it can be utilized best and have a nice large foot to give the guide smooth travel.

Edit: I am sorry if I am beginning to sound exasperated over this race. It's only because I AM!
We've been talking about this for months and this is a basic thing that most people should already know.
AND even though we are talking on a forum that seems to promote and revel in all things vintage, not everyone pays attention when Philippe or Bertil or Joe post neat historical threads of great historical import regarding the glory days.

This race cannot come too soon in my opinion.

Guide clips yes... and only because I remember seeing someone in a Model Car Science mag using them. I am pretty sure they were not widespread... but that's my story and justification.

Besides... nobody wants a broken lead wire more than me since my Dynamic Challenge car died during the last race because of that very same thing!

Mike, my clips are brass, so they cannot be challenged

Hang in there, Jairus, you are doing a great job, everybody loves you, and we know it's tough being the "bad man" behind blue eyes :laugh2: I am as guilty as anyone when it comes to being a PITA here. Please forgive us and have faith, it will all come together once the silent majority reveal their secrets :)

Terrific.

I just wasn't sure if that had been gone over and clarified before.

Mike, I thought you meant guide 'post' clips. :sarcastic_hand:
Thanks for reminding me about those. ;)

I think nutz may have been in use in 1970, although not the 'Supernut' that you currently offer. :good:

We now have 41 names on the list of entrants. Never thought we would have this many entrants and that means that there will be either 5+ mains or one very long round-robin race ahead....

Not posting the address till after September 10th. Plenty of time and you don't want the car sitting for a month anyway... right?

Hey J,..

Posted Image

That's a lovely detail shot. I've decided that (with all the furore my chassis seems to have caused) if I have time (which is highly unlikely with my vacation and the new Job) I am going to try to build a fallback/substitute chassis just incase my original gets vetoed/blacklisted/outlawed/banned. I was thinking about a detail this morning and now see you have employed something similar here. I hope you don't mind if I borrow/adapt (steal/half inch) it. Truth is I'm not very good a bending piano wire accurately and so I'm always on the look out for workarounds, and you have a really nice one here that would help me out no end. hehe. They do say that copying is the greatest form of flattery don't they.

That is exactly the same nut and guide set up that I have though as you know, my guide is blue. ;)

Al

PS, If I do build a second machine, it will be sporting the wavemaker style body from Raynoda Dream Werks. However, I'll not have time for a fancy paint job or any testing.
