THIS motor has run for 3 minutes at 3v on the power pack and remains cool... so heading back to the track tomorrow. Oh, and I also changed the gear ratio to 4.42 to 1 and increased the tire diameter to 7/8 to keep legal ground clearance.
Finally running a full set of Riggen wheels with JK natural glued and trued.
(If the car still tips, I have a set of Riggen 1/2" wide wheels I'll try next.)
The motor features Champion light springs (insulated), Gold Dust brushes and shunt wires. The Cox 31t crown is previously used so it's not as quiet as I would like and I may have to go the dyed Parma route if this one seems too worn. But it spins straight and true.
Weight at this point is 98g as you see it and that's lighter than Nesta's new D3!

and with a 24 wind,a helluva lot faster too,i'd bet,,,,,,,lolReady to go to the track again tomorrow. Testing last Tues proved that the #24 RehCo arm was just not the right fit so I built a Mura "A" motor with a gp12 arm. The arm I pulled out of a Mura motor in 1972 and have been carrying it in my various slot boxes since. It's almost brand new and nearly period!

BTW, I have a set of those used and never knew the manufacturer so I could find replacement bearings. Thanks for the info.

You need anything for the proxy? "O" ring front wheels? Lead wire tabbed brush hoods for a Mura? Aluminum heat sinks?
Okay, just got back from the track moments ago.
She is not quite as easy to drive as a Flexi car (yet) but seems just as quick now with the new Mura motor and very nearly corners as well. Tipping is under control mostly with the addition of more nose weight. But I am noticing the tipping occurs more violently with a quick deslot under hard tight corners with NO warning. The tipping could come from too wide tires or it could be guide wobble.
I suspect guide wobble as I cannot seem to adjust the guide sufficiently with just the set screw Dubro keeper. So adding a screw and washer to the top to add just a touch more pressure to eliminate any wobble.
But most importantly, the new motor is very tractable, quick and stays cool!!!
No tire chirping seems to be happening but I am going to true up some 1/2" rears just as a test for Tuesday's trip back to the track for a night of Flexi Racing.
Overall, I am very pleased with the improvements so far and the car runs 100% better now... even tho it's no longer an uncontrollable missile.
But... it is easier to drive! And that is important considering other people will be driving it.
Okay, this brings me to another throne in my flesh. "That of what is vintage?"
One of the rules I wrote regards moveable pin tubes. In other words... what I always understood being a design that never showed it's head until the late 80's or early 90's.
What I am talking about is a pin tube that runs across the chassis, held in place by two tube keepers and allowed to move slightly up and down in a pair of square tubes or wire loops on each side of the chassis. This construction allows the body some movement with-out floppy pans.
So my question to anyone reading. Can someone state categorically that this technology was known back in 1970?
My friend at the track today said it was. But he is only one person.
Acknowledgeable a very smart and trustworthy person who raced back then. But I need at least two other independent confirmations to change the rule.
Okay?
Okay.
Carry on.

As for loose pin tubes... Well, I was a troublesome two year old in 1970 so I'm afraid I cannot add anything constructive.

Do not change Rule # 11.
It is WAY TOO LATE in the game to start second guessing and changing the rules.
Some of us are almost ready to post official, final, photos for legality.
To change the game right now would be suicide.
You asked for an opinion, you got it, respectfully, Sir.
Thanks for sharing test results, Jairus.
I'm so fired up right now, I had to place a brown bag over my head to stop the hyperventilation.......

No, there were no shaker pin tubes in 1970.
Do not change Rule # 11.
Or rule #12

Too late to start changing rules.
I don't doubt the fact but now is not the fact finding phase unless there is a challenge to an entry.
To build with shaker mounts would stand as a violation of a written rule.
It would be like if an anglewinder showed up with a picture of a 1969 thingy built that way.
Rules are Rules - Not right for the guys who are now built.
There has been challenges to the rules all along - why didn't this issue come up sooner.

Looking forward to this (and hoping my car is accepted).
Jairus...May I suggest an Official entry thread, similar to the Cars thread for the last proxy. You could start it with 3 pictures of your machine (so we can follow suit). If we also keep it comment free it'll be a nice, easy to use and free from clutter reference. All comments (and challenges) could continue to be made in this thread. Just a thought.

Bob, that's already been done & shown many times. Either the museum or Don Siegel owns one.
Frankly, use whatever rules you want. That usually happens.
