I never said they were not allowed, you did Philippe.

My mistake. :)
Makes things simple then. If anyone is in dire need, I probably have a few that I can donate for this proxy.

I'm just showing you the answer to your question about whether a "fat" arm would be illegal.
Post # 50 says "any arm". Simple.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Gotcha Pablo! Well, if anyone goes with this setup, I do have some arm blanks here of very good quality that clean up at around .560" diameter. I'll do any wind for a nominal fee of $15 for the arm and com and $15 for winding and finishing (if anyone wants dynamic balancing, they can handle that themselves through their local track...or maybe Ron???), but I can't do that many. Just trying to help people get sorted.

I could use a can and endbell if anyone has a spare (or whole motor).

Two races on two different west coast tracks and I had not thought about voltage. As for the RJR endbell.... when was it first available to the public? Read my premise please and if it could have been hanging on the wall at the local slot track at the beginning of the summer 1970 then yeah. If not available, then no.

Well, a body producer who at this time shall remain nameless wants to use this body. As per the rules, he is allowing it for sale to other racers if they want one. Before I am saying run it, I would like the entrants opinions please.
The aero benefits of the body as I see it are no greater than most any other Choti bodies. I don't think it looks much like something that John Chotia came up with or even vintage... but then Howmet, Zimmerman or Bond most likely won't come up with anything any different either.
So I am asking entrants their opinion before it goes on sale.

Nah. Don't like. Looks like a wing car body sans wings.

Well, I like it.

I think it is well in keeping with the 'spirit' of the choti bods, without being a choti bod. I can't see a problem with the elavated sides as they are not attached wings, but are part of the mould and I thought this proxy was balls out and aero rules after all. To me it is a close relative of these two beauties, both of which (bodies) are legal for this proxy.

I was about to post that I intend to enter, My plan was to build a very light, very minimal chassis (like the first two you posted J) and to rely on aero for downforce, but if the body above doesn't pass muster then I can't see mine will. :(

Back to the drawing board I guess.

Al

PS, Please lets stop fussing about the rules. Jairus has spelled them out perfectly. Both for the chassis and the body. I like the idea that bodies and chassis can be challenged and that bodies must be available for anyone to use. Beyond that let's build.

I don't think so at all, dear Chief, and that with all due respect I have for you and for what you've been making.
Thingies mostly had the pretense of having a pilot in them, that door stop above is a step toward wing cars, i believe.
But, hey, go ahead, make my day! ^_^

Ahhh E, is that what the problem is??? No pilot's cockpit... I didn't even notice that.

In that case I'm safe. - pilot included.

I thought it was the lines that were prooving contraversial, and I just thought it was very similar to the chotis I posted.

Ahem, not that I want to be rude or anything like that, but I'm quite flabbergasted by the fact that you compare those lovely Choties to that blob.
But hey, who am I to judge?

What voltage did they run on back in the 60's?

Standard car batteries with voltage of 12.6 volts fully charged. Newer hybrid car batteries are around 14.3 but now everyone uses transformers (electronic power supply) usually set to 12.6 to 13 volts.

I'm not one for too many rules or exclusions, but the body seems clearly to have more in common with modern wing car bodies than a classic Choti. Heck...I don't think anyone would complain if it were in a race limited to modern wing car bodies. It's a nice body and all, but it's not just the lack of a cockpit, the lines of the body are way off from the "general concept". Having said that, I don't care if it's in or not.

John, John, Edo,

It must be my eyes... But I can't see how the lines of that mould are so different from those of Jairus' car (disregarding details). Other than the forward hump that is. I'm assuming that when the plastic is shaped there would be less of a step at the front, as the height of the mould is there to facilitate a clear pull. And of course you can shape the rear wheel cut outs as you wish.

Stick a cockpit on it, some exhausts and a bulge to allow for the guide and the result would not be so far removed from J's car. Would it not?

Anyway, enough of all that. One thing that can be said for what's on my drawing board at the mo is it is not a wing car. But I may need my tin hat. hehe.

The RULES state:

Rule # 17: "Anything that even LOOKS like a modern wing car body or chassis will not be allowed"

The time for planning is way over. It's way too late to be coming up with new ideas at this time.

Many many props to Jairus on this project. :good:

I appreciate people who sacrifice time and energy to a project like this,
especially when we as slotcar people can be such a pain at times when it comes to rules.

Few rules is a good thing in "thingie racing" and I like Jairus's take on these rules.
That being said I am not a fan of using a Modern Parma W66 type body on a pre 70's thingie. JMHO.

Hi there Paul.

I'm just trying to ascertain what it is specifically that makes a car looks like a modern wing car. Like I said above (excepting the details) I can't see all that much difference in the lines between the mould Jairus posted that has been accused of looking like a wing car without wings, and the two chotis I posted, which to my mind look very similar. Would you therefore ban those chotis too? One would have to if it is the rear swoop that is problematic.

It doesn't really matter to me as my designs don't look like any of the above hehe (but I do have a rear swoop), however, I am beginning to wonder what "in the spirit" means with regards to body design. I would allow the builder of that mould Jairus posted (whoever he is) to enter this proxy, so long as he added a cockpit to the design.

Anyone want to clarify things for the uninitiated...

:D

Cool looking mold Jairus :good: I do know who made it :dance3: I had a copy of it :laugh2: But, I won't mention who. You know, it made nice Choti bodies too :sun_bespectacled:

Remmber ?? your only limited by your imagitation  all things can be transformed into Thingies :laugh2: and ya, it did have a cockpit at one time.
