Bill the Porsche is by Truescale
No wonder I saw lots of detail then, Victor's bodies are great, but not many of them come east of the Mississippi.

Well, they have made it to France, but not sure where we are in relation to the Mississippi...

Well after a Loooong & shakey start and much delay the engineers got back to the garage/factory & continued on with the Porsche
Driver is having his race suit pressed & helmet sprayed up final pieces and fettling going on behind closed doors! Airbrush on it's way to lay some color down , air intakes cut out & detailing accents applied. Must try to print up some decals or dust off the wobbly paint brush skiilz to apply some sign writing.
Team Pittman despite the setbacks with the Sports car project have expressed interest in designing a GP car for an R&C race too, so body having been obtained the design g33ks are hard at work with the chassis.
few more detail tweaks to come , project 906 maybe finished sometime this century Thank you for your patience!

Thanks Rick I thought/hoped it would add a little to the bodywork.
A race Pablo? *goes back and makes the engineers at the factory work double time*

A question regarding rear spoilers & front diaplanes that were used on some of the original R&C cars , how were they mounted? /How best to mount them?
The real 906 in 1966 had small front spoilers under each headlight & would make great little diaplanes & the rear spoiler would just look neat & give some extra sponsorship area plus some much needed downforce.
Thanks
Here's a shot of the little front spoilers & the color scheme that will be on the car for Bill
Also some spy shots just in from Pittman R&D They will be using another 6001 for their GP entry & have just aquired a spiffy original 6001/26D motor bracket.
Plus an airbrush has now landed at the workshop so after some fairly speedy practice shells & some final finishing the 906 can be rolled out & the chassis g33ks can get cracking & design a frame around the bracket for the GP entry...

With time fast approaching for the event & a very nice counter sinking tool (thanks Rick!) in hand it was time to get this project done.
After wearing out a cheap countersink tool doing the 6001 motor in the GP car I needed a new one. Rick kindly linked me to the one he uses & a few days later I had one too!
Thanks again Rick This is one sweet little piece of equipment & made short work of sinking the endbell mounting holes in the Pittcan . Literally seconds!
Since doing the Drag Proxy and spraying my first ever body using an airbrush it was time to spray the Porsche...... Not good, didn't mask it properly & ended up with red overspray & also tearing up some of the red side paint with the masking tape prior to spraying the white! So with some careful damage limitation the paint is as good as it's going to be, with decals/details to follow. Looks so much better with the interior inside
Motor back together, with leadwire & running in to follow then tires done etc.. this project is finally nearing the finish line !
Also how do you fix the wheel inserts in the Russkit repop wheels? do they stay in with interference fit or do you use some adhesive to keep em in?(never used wheel inserts before so just making sure)
Posted 01 July 2014 - 03:13 AM
There is no one best way to do inserts, Paul. Rick T. uses silicon. I've used silicon, Krazy Glue, it all depends like you said, how tight or loose is the fit ?
If the fit is real loose, sometimes I'll plan it so the ends of the axle make the insert right at the depth I want it with it fully inserted, face the axle ends flat and perfect with drill and dremel cutoff wheel, then put a dab of JB Weld on the end of the axle (with the wheels on) and push the insert home. It eliminates the guesswork out of how deep they are. But don't plan on taking the wheels on and off the axle much
The body is fine, as soon as the decals are on, it will distract the eyes away from the blemishes I'm surprised you didn't do the decals inside.

Thanks Rick Your 2 paintjobs came out great !
Not having any waterslide decals in the box I was going to print my own , but time is against me... So a quick trip to the local hobby lobby came up with some Pinewood Derby number stickers Plus the correct British Racing green rattle can paint for the Pittman GP entry. Which is currently set in paint cure mode till final finishing off.
Just a few tweaks to the body details & some mechanicals left to do on both cars, they will be in the post asap & will arrive at Rick's in plenty of time
Here's the Porsche looking much better with the driver in place & a few decals in place ...

Paul, where'd you get that windshield wiper? It's detail caught my attention in an earlier photo. I'm used to seeing someone paint them on or drawing them in with a felt tip marker.

Paul did a great job on his car and the Pittman 6001 is a great motor right out of the box. There was an armature update along the way. There is info here:
