Thanks for asking, Don W, that is a very good question.

Of course I have it covered !

On my post # 146 you can see the brass weight is screwed down by the jig thingie, but what you cannot see is the 0.100 nut underneath it, which compensates for the height of the flag. The weight is level for 063 clearance using the flag plus the .030 braids.and one .010 spacer.

On post # 147, the second pic down is misleading, because it appears the drop arm assembly is level at ground zero.

In fact, it is merely tilted down due to gravity.

It looks funny because this is the first time you've ever seen drop arm rods off the deck instead of flat on the deck.

Just trust me :laugh2:  It's perfect :D  Good eye, Don :)

Chassis done. In keeping with the 1966 theme, and to make Bill happy, no tumbling.

Just Ajax, Dawn, and a tooth brush :D

Another great looking chassis by Pablo! If you really want to add some hand-made bling, get a jar of "Mother's Mag & Aluminum Polish." It'll give you a mirror finish on most metals.  You know, if you stopped making such pretty chassis, you wouldn't have to look for clear plastic boxes to display them.  :laugh2:

Ready to start on inserts and body.

Gearing is 8 brass/30 Weldun.

Sounds real healthy and smooth on power supply, but I'm still wary of a possible short in the arm. Time will tell..

Balance point is right at the gimbal.

Meets R & C rules.

Now, where did I put those doggone McLaren inserts ?

Hey, I finally found a good use for those Parma lead wires.

My flag limiter arms contacted the copper parts of the brushes at full extension, which would cause a short. I removed the wire from the inside of two short pieces and used 'em as insulators :laugh2:

Never throw anything away until 7 years has passed :)

I can do good photography when I put my mind to it.

It requires changing the setting on the camera and setting up better light.

For normal pics I opt for "quickie" instead of "quality" :)

When she is 100% done, I promise to make a better effort.

Have no fear, your pics even the "quickie ones" as you put it are cool, showing the build as it happens perfectly.. You helped me take better pictures :good: I've got the white foam board now just need the bright lights ! Along with some nice simple software that brightens & sharpens things beautifully :good:

Really liking this GP car Pablo ... So simple and looks awesome.

Very, very nice Pablo.

......It requires changing the setting on the camera and setting up better light......

SteveO once told me that, "Too much light it not enough!"  :laugh2:  He sure hit the nail on the head.

I'm using a new method of attaching inserts.

I plan the lengths of the axles so the ends protrude exactly the right amount through the hubs, so when the insert is pushed in, the axle stops it in just the right place.

Then I just apply a drop of 2 part epoxy to each axle end and push 'em home. Dummyproof. :D

That body looks sharp! Too bad it isn't still available. I wonder how the Dilworth & Andersen McLarens compare?

As a followup, 1966 was the first year McLaren F1s were run & the white paint with a green stripe was the 'factory' paint job. In 1967, their colors changed to orange. :)

Very nice GP car Pablo :D The chassis looks really sweet underneath,so simple with the 2 rail design & minimal drop arm....  It just looks RIGHT :good: and gives off the feel of being a good runner !

Even better with the Pablo motor nestled between the rails :D

Thanks guys :D  Not bad for a shaker like me :)

The driver is a Noose. Mirrors by Bryan Warmack, thanks Bryan !!!

How come nobody told me the flag stop piece wouldn't fit under the skinny front of the body ? :shok:  :dash2:

The body itself is currently the flag stop. We'll see if it works.

Onward. :)

Yep...  The flag stop piece won't fit under the skinny front of the body.

What's more, the guide flag hits the sides of the body as it swivels.

Experience is the best teacher, don't you think?

This was such a problem with narrow F1 bodies that by 1968 the national rules included a caveat that allowed you to trim the sides of your F1 body to provide clearance to swivel the guide 90 degrees.

Nice looking build!  :good:  :D
