Finished one plate. Won't be doing this again soon.

Maybe I should have shitcanned the 50 year old worn out files and bought some real ones  :dash2:

The one from the orange car on the left, mine on the right. Not as thin at the bushing area but the best I can do for now.

Followed the old adage, "if it don't go chrome it" and gave it a quick polish.

Yes Paul, It is great to have R-Geo onboard.

Also .... I'm getting emails from modern scale drag racers wanting to join.

We throw around terms like Laminated, Padlock, Open Frame ...etc..

Are there any good links that can explain and provide a pictorial to help new (younger) guys with understanding these terms?

Bob,

I'm not sure there's a specific site for that, but probably the easiest thing is just to give them a link or two to our original discussions, with all the scans of period magazine articles - that gives a pretty good overview.

I don't think "padlock" was a term used that often at the time, but they'll quickly get the idea... and besides that, there really weren't that many other specific terms (or maybe I'm so used to them, I don't see them anymore).

DC85X and out...

Don

Think Don's idea sound good, links showing all the discussions, pictures and magazine scans.. would be fine.

Grew up running the Parma 16D and knew nothing of the padlocks at all when starting the build for the 1st Florida proxy. :shok:

Using the magazine scans and info on the Blog and Rick's amazing builds using the Kemtron etc gave enough information to put the Beetle together.

Now it's easy to take them apart without fear, although no guarantee its gonna work afterwards :laugh2:

I hadn't see that spec sheet before ... vintage printed scanned material is always helpful :laugh2:

Buy any ?...  can't keep up building 'with what I got'. :dash2:

I get edgy when I try to 'not' buy something I don't have (or just want more of it them)   :diablo:

Hey gang,

Here's what I've been working on for the last several months.

Hey!!  Who's that peeping over that big block Pittman!

It's Tinkerbell, drag racings hottest pixie driver. Why, her driving has been described as somewhat magical.

Here we go...a slightly modified RGeo repop with a balanced ball bearing  6 volt DC85a

Gees, time flies. Only a few months to build more racers, let's hit it guys!

Wow Bob! Exactly what Rick said :good:

Did you have any issues with the height of the front axle holes using the original K&B fronts?

Have 2 of those amazing repop kits and trying to use original Russkit Eliminator fronts they aren't anywhere near the track and even with tractor sized O rings won't touch..

Was thinking I may need to adjust axle hole height or ask in the swap shop for some of those K&B front wheels.

I just drilled another set of holes in front of and lower than the originals to give me an option for tracks that require the front wheels to touch. That car looks great!

Thanks for the compliments guys! :hi:

There were issues with the front wheels. I ended up removing about 1/32" from the bottom of the frame rails and also used 18x4mm O-rings on the K&B wheels that end up at 1.07" diameter compared to the original 1.0". There's now about .080" of ground clearance.

I think the added meat of the metric O-rings look a bit better over the skinny originals on the K&B wheels. These also fit the Speedway drag wheels very nicely as seen in this pic.

Thank you very much David and Bob for the info, will look at some of those O rings, removing some frame material and possible extra holes ..

Now back to designing, building & finishing off cars that are already part the way done!! So little time so much still to do :laugh2:

Introducing....

Firebolt!

Firebolt_zps9a5e413c.jpg

Fireboltchassis_zpsbb5df24c.jpg

I haven't said anything so far about projects, because I wasn't sure I'd have the time or energy to get something done, but finally decided on a body a few days ago (an old assembled Firebolt kit by Monogram that I had lying around) and was able to finish the chassis this long weekend. It's a modified Cox chassis for the Pittman DC65 that had been under a Thunderbird - I lengthened it a bit and added a new front end and drop arm - maybe a little too beefed up for a dragster, but wanted to make sure it held together.

That's a new DC65, unmodified so far. I'll just run it in for the race - unless I get ambitious and try to do a full-house version! My thinking was that a DC65 would be better for these conditions (ie, lower voltage) than the DC85 size motors - but we'll see!

Obviously, I have a lot of work to do on the body. It was heavily glued at the time, so I have to see what I can do about that, plus decide on a paint scheme, put my driver in a flame suit, etc. Off to find the wet/dry sandpaper...

Don

PS: not sure what class this falls into: it's not really a rod or a rail, closer to the latter I guess, but only 7-1/4" long

Top stuff Don! Great to see you in the Proxy :D nice project :good:

Good call /theory on the lower voltage smaller motor .. had that exact same conclusion with one car I'm trying to get finished .
