Ok, I need to shut my mind off somehow
Just going through a hoard of K&B chassis today to thin the heard. Found this stuff including a Super Challenger and some trashed frame rails.
Say, what if I extend the chassis with the junk bits? Okay, I cut the rails and used the extra piece to join it all up.
Here is the first mock-up. Plenty left to do. Reissue Topolino body on it and the Hemi should conceal the nuts and bolts of the surgery nicely. I thought I read somewhere here that a Super challenger is one of the accepted motors. Somebody please confirm. Thanks

Don, Very slick 60s rocket/jet car.
At 7 1/4" overall it would fall under the Comp/Coupe class and have the chance at a runoff in that class if there are enough in the Comp/Coupe' class.
The listed classes that fall under the 'Rods" eliminator category is for all the class winner move-ups or automatic move-ups.
The final race of the event will be the Top "Rod" winner vs. the Top "Rail" winner for the title.
Exhibition classes will 'crown' winners but are not eligible for the overall title.
Does that make sense?
Joe,
These are on the official rules page list and are legal.
- K&B Challenger 1502
- K&B Super Challenger 1504 (1516)

Bob S., that rail is a beauty. Clean as a whistle
Don, you know I love weird hardbodies and that Firebolt qualifies. It's the
Here is an interesting fact, in the original Firebolt and in the reissue the driver figure is the exact "one armed "man used in the 1/32 Deuce slot car. Molded in red he's ready to go. This driver is also correct for the 1/32 MG.
Bob, thanks for the rule clarification.
Ok, did a little more tinkering today. Actually really like how this is progressing. Looks somewhat like a silver Russkit Eliminator. You can also see that I've been experimenting with putting bearings in the motor case. Don't think I've ever seen this done before. Stock the axle just rides in the plastic although the plastic is hard as a rock and I've never seen one fail in this area. Bearings are in a vintage holder, case modified to fit them.
One more question, I was originally thinking of mounting the drop arm up front but I think it looks and operates better here. I can even get the stock spring to work with a little tweaking. My question is this setup going to trip the stage light or am I going to have to put something up front to do it. Is the light tripped by the guide or the tire?

Joe,
The guide trips stage lights and starts/stops the timer.
Black or modern guides as the track sensors don't trip with white or shallow blades. Or... foil tape on the blade of the guide works great too.
Your K&B Challenger rail is looking good.... darn good. How long are you making it?

OK, thanks for the advice. If I leave it this way ( with a black guide added ) the guide is back 3" from the front but I guess it will be OK if cars are run by e.t. and not what part crosses the line first. Just that my car may look like it's getting a lead when it really isn't. There I go thinking again.
Thanks for the positive on the K&B. I will assume ( don't say it ) that you mean total length and not how long I have been working on it. Anyway, total length right now is right about 8" compared to about 9.5" for the typical Russkit.

Overall length.... but how long did it take ? lol
Keep in mind .... at or over 8" it runs as a Rail, under 8" it would run as a Comp/Coupe.
Back up one screw hole and you're there dude... It'll still look like you have a/half/a car length at the line.

Roll Call
I want to fill in the entry list spreadsheet.
I need to plan for the purchase of the awards based on class/car count.
Also: Please post in this discussion any favorite vintage drag images that could make it on to the box plaques.
Are there any open questions on the rules or procedures?

Bob, I'm wondering if this is cast in concrete or?? At any rate, as of today it looks like 2 rails, 1 rod, 1 stock for me.

Hi David,
I'll populate and display the list but it will flexible to add or remove entries if needed.
At the 30 day mark before the event the list gets locked and the awards will be ordered from the list.
Four cars ,,,, Cool What sub-class type of car are you entering in the 'Rods' class ... could it be a blue T-Bird
I'm getting charged up about the 'Grassroots' Hardbody Stock Class.

Bob, nice touch on the tribute, never met the man but he always liked my stuff. Said news indeed.
Please don't make me read all the rules, is a modern Jet flag allowed?
I will give you an entry count soon. Probably 2 cars at this point. Still sorting out final details regarding class.

Look forward to seeing your entries Joe
Oh and nice touch on the renaming Bob, never knew Ray but he seemed a top notch guy.

Ray was a key player, organizer and tough competitor in Slot Proxy events.
Always ready to step up. never met Ray or raced with him but I sure enjoyed our phone chats.
Naming the race in his honor is the least I could do...
Joe, Paul has it right... If you don't run a Cox or a dyed flag ... a modern black is needed to trip the optical timers in the slot.

Hi guys,
As Bob mentioned, dye that guide!
Here's a shot of what can be done
This is a NOS Dynamic guide, cooked up in black Rit dye.
(while you have a brew going, dye those grotty pink Parma gears for your modern cars, too.)

Well, I fixed up my Firebolt; didn't dye the original Russkit guide, just swapped it out for a black Revell... better not to look too closely at the paint job! DC65-6, modified Cox chassis, K&B dragster fronts and unknown rears, maybe Corben, with Paul Gage urethane tires...

Don,
Seeing the before and after ... it came out GREAT!.
How did you get the glue of the canopy? Nice!
Another one "saved", I like doing and seeing that.
