Thanks guys :D

Drive shaft is a length of 3/32 axle joined to the motor shaft with something I found in a box of old slot bits, fitted perfect over the end of the arm, could of used a large Cox sidewinder pinion aswell.

will take a picture of the drive shaft & put it up :good:

As for the ride height it's pretty close to what the real car it's trying to recreate has got :D

huge tires, huge ground clearance, 392 Hemi and a whole lotta fun down the strip !

Looks great Paul, I like that big "mill" sticking up in the air.

Tires are a tough choice, maybe include both and see what track conditions are on the day...

Paul, your "little mouse" looks great. Make sure you polish that motor out. The brass looks great when done up.

I know some people may frown on this idea but I had two Kemtron motors that were super grungy and green. They looked very bad. I threw them ( complete ) in the tumbler for a couple hours and they came out unbelievable. I had nothing to lose so I tried it. Wondered if they would run after the bath but they ran fine.

Love the MM tires too. I don't think that company ever got the recognition it deserved. They made some very high quality wheels, axles etc.

Bob, I don't know why they would pose a Floozie in a bikini next to a sled rail. Shoulda been in a ski parka :D

Will polish the mill Joe, end up looking like a shiny brass hemi & blower :D

Don't worry about the tumbler method, if I remember correctly PdL has put rare Pro cars complete through the rinse cycle :good:

Ah... thought the allowance of modern guides would include the push in braid & nice soldered lead wire clips...

With having to mount the braids in modern guides with screws, does this rule out using the Cox quick change guide with push in braids/wires pushed through holes?

Good question Paul,

Cox quick change guides were available in 1967 and are allowed with or without Cox clips.

Screws optional with snap type Cox guides.

IMO - The screws in the modern guides help keep the 67 vintage look.

I like it :)

Hey, no fair, what is that gook on that arm? :D

Looks like she got the mine and you got the shaft :sarcastic_hand:

You may want to experiment with that crown a little, maybe something Hypoid or solid brass.

Not sure how that gear shown would hold up.

Also might want to move the bracket closer to the pinion where the shaft will need to be most stable for good mesh.

Of course, these are just suggestions.

If you would like me to keep my suggestions to myself just let me know. I will understand ^_^

That gunk on the arm is JBweld applied by Mr Havlicek when balancing the arm after a neat rewind :D

I hear ya on the gear , was thinking metal but the mesh is smooth & will try it out real soon. . Plus it had a lot of teeth om it so a nice big gear.

Hey guys,

I got a little more done on my stubby dragster.

It now has a full ounce of lead on the front end resulting in about a 47/53 front/rear weight ratio.

The Fiat body got shot with Spaz Stix candy blue with chrome and black backing.

Also ground a pair of Pro-Track SBR tires to about .530 wide after Gator's suggestion that natural rubber might grip a bit too much. :good:

Hoping to test run it this weekend.

If anyone is getting ideas of pilfering this tiny oddball, be forewarned, it's now being guarded by the fearsome drag tiger, Mr. Pepper Pod. :bb:

Loving the color of that Spaz Stix paint Bob :good:  How easy is that to paint with? Similar to Creatix etc?

With a bit more tinkering on a couple of cars the Topolino now has a guide/holder and the body is now pinned/mounted .

topolino a.jpg

Plus the first sneak peek shots of the Fiat 500 altered being sorted for the Daughter's entry :D  with it's guide & braids sorted plus pinion soldered on.

500a.jpg

500b.jpg

500c.jpg

Both are pretty close to being finished in terms of the chassis/ drive train , with running in,  paint & detailing left  :good:

*Must try to sort out at least one Unlimited car....although time is running out !! *

Nice.....

The lil' 500 is cool. :good:

At first glance :wacko2:  it looks like it is strapped down on the trailer in the second picture. "Off to the painter"  :)  :sun_bespectacled:

Hadn't even noticed that Bob :D

Just left the lead wires hanging ready to sort out some tabs for screwing into the guide.

Screw on braids = most fiddly of tasks :laugh2:

Very cool cars, Paul. :sun_bespectacled:

The Spaz Stix paints are very easy to use. I'm just a rattle can hack and I get decent results.

The first candy coats can be overdone though. One or two coats will suffice, thicker than that and the chrome backing doesn't show through too well. All the coats dry very quickly. I did two coats of candy blue, three of chrome and two black backing coats. If backing is not used, the chrome will rub right off with normal handling. Total time for painting and drying these coats was about four hours.

Try it, you'll like it! :victory:

My lil' Fiat dragster has had a set back.  I fired it up to break in the gears and such and was treated to the sight of powdered aluminum sparkles raining off the Weldun spur and a nasty grinding noise. Evidently the pinion was miss cut and the tooth profiles didn't match up. :shok:

I'll be going to 48 pitch gears on the next attempt, parts are on the way.

Thanks Bob .... I never heard of it.

They have a great selection.

It's lacquer ?

http://www.spazstix.com/

Was it a Weldun pinion? I might have one if you need it.

Never tried them but ... the 34 (?) pitch Kemton gears look pretty cool.

I have some pinions but no spurs if anyone needs'um.

Oh, I forgot one thing about the Spaz Stix paint sequence.

The very first coat was their "ultimate surface pre-prep". Shoot on a light coat before any color paint.

I'm not sure what the paint formulas are, but the Mirror Chrome's can says to back it with their ultimate black backer or a black water base sealer. Acrylic??

Their mirror chrome really is chrome, not a silver, it's fantastic stuff.

It was a Weldun pinion, I should have known better, it looked a bit sharp on it's edges.

Thanks for the offer, Bob, but I'm now going to a Cox pinion with either a Dynamic brass spur or a good old wobbly Cox spur. I'll try them both and see what happens.

Will have to check out the paint , looks really cool . Weird you had that problem with the Weldun gears ! :shok:

Sounded like the motor moved or a 48 pitch pinion was used, have seen a few of those Kemtron spur gears on epay that Bob mentioned :good:

Gees, time flies. Only a few months to build more racers, let's hit it guys!

Bob, could I trouble you to show a picture of the right side to see how you mounted the rail.

Fiddling around it looks like it will not clear the brush arms of my 85.

So ... some 85's have full width brush arms and some have the more narrow arm and a round (button) portion where the brush is attached.

That was a question ... lol
