Thanks G-Bob, I was wondering at first if my post had been lost ( I was having internet issues at same time I added that), sorry I stuck it in wrong area. cant twist your arm on the lancer can I ? Is the Dubro fairly similar in size dimensions ? Maybe hold it for me and see if anyone out here in blog land might offer a Lancer up? ( I know their rare and I am kicking self for not snagging the one on ebay )

Who'z going 'Big' ?
In the mean time ... A good old car show and vintage drags keeps the nitro flowing. That orange 33

Nothing definite though and just wild speculation in the team motorhome

I'm definitely "going big". My first attempt is a Henry J. Hopefully will have a "multi" done as well.

I'll go big
Dunno if it would be multiple inline open frames motors or a DC105A (or two), but I wanna play ,too
I have a 12" plastic toy school bus on the way, anxious to see what will fit in it.
It may be a bit narrow, but big meats stickin' out might look intimidating.
Between "luxury" on the bus and the spelling of school on the box, I got a good giggle.

Still working on Monster Motor stuff myself, it got back burnered for a bit. Got some huge-but-slow motors. Any pics, Paul??

Had to take the front plate off to have a look inside. Massive 5 pole beast of an armature with long brush arms with the usual spring & plunger. Put it back so I couldn't be tempted to strip it down

Very nice builds, Tom.
I particularly like the brass body on the rail.
The new 36D class should be lotsa fun with everyone running to spec. It'll make for tight competition.
I'm behind on my builds this year with my recent move, but I'll catch up.
I built an "industrial strength" wheelie bar this year on my ridiculous monster motor class car, Fireball 95B. Last year the piano wire wheelie bar allowed the beast to "porpoise" down the track as the wimpy bar setup would repeatedly flex and springboard back as it deflected which would then allow the pickup braids to lose contact.
Also added some killer 12 AWG lead wires and will be adding a .016 aluminum sheet body along with a full set of aluminum screw fasteners to help reduce the one pound+ running weight.
Hopefully she cut sub one second runs this year!

Wow, Pit Man, missed this one last year - a work of art.
Ditto on the nice brass body Tom, and some good looking rails!

Yup, that's the one Tom, the one arc welding the pickup braids and banging the rear of the chassis!
Here's a couple shots of the motor.
It started life as a Pittman DC95B, but all that's original now are the lamination stacks.
Inside is a 13 turn dbl wind R/C Venom Fireball arm (originally intended to run on 7.2 volts) and brush endbell. The end plates were machined from micarta on a Bridgeport mill, the clunky alnico magnet replaced with a N52 neodymium magnet and ball bearings on both ends. All said and done it is a REDICULOUSLY powerful motor! Quite a mix of 50's and modern tech parts.
This was the 3rd and most likely last of it's kind made. Hopefully the other owners will post shots of theirs, built with aluminum end plates.

Out of curiosity Pittman, how many teeth are on those outer gears/pinions running off the motor?
Gonna have to work out a suitable ratio for mine considering I'm toying with an idea of putting this inline In the style of the 60's front engined rails. Time for 1/8 music wire rails
Any idea if the modern slot drag crown gears would hold up to the torque of this WMD?

Hi Paul
The 4 big gears are all 62 tooth, one 39 tooth on a jackshaft meshes into one of those 62's, resulting in a 1.59:1 ratio.
Hopefully, modern crowns would take the torque, but the trick would be to build the motor mount/axle carrier just as rigid as possible.
I not sure which I'd use, Parma or the skinny toothed Sonic drag gears, I'd think the wider toothed Parma might be a bit tougher. The more I think about it, I'd bet on the Sonic going bye bye on the first launch.
The good old brass 2:1 K&B bevels may also be a good option.

Geez Paul, if you run that 95 as an inliner, you might have to put an out rigger on the side from torqing over on itself!!
