We could start a pool. Jim.
How do you want to do this, Jairus? Maybe pick a day and time he arrives home?

Looking at the photos, it's hard to tell which is older, the car or the driver. That car looks really nice!

Just a date I guess.
The very hour is crazy to guess, so maybe make it pre-noon or after-noon giving two people a "same day" guess.
Figuring that they will travel about 40 miles an hour. 2.5 hours to Bend. 3 hours after that to Burns... etc.
I figure eleven days with no problems. Add two breakdowns at two days max per repair... my guess is 15 days to make the trip and arrival in Atlanta.
November 10 in the late afternoon is my guess and I pledge 10 bucks paid to the forum if I am wrong!
If I am right... I don't gotta pay! If I am wrong I will make the donation the day I am proved wrong.
Who else is in?

I think they they can do it in 9 days. So my guess is they will arrive at Greg's house a week from tomorrow afternoon.
We don't need to pledge any money. Whomever wins, Greg owes them $50. How does that sound?

I'm thinking only one breakdown. That and I know Greg will be doing some drafting so I'm shooting for late afternoon Nov. 8.
Hope all goes well on this epic trip. Looking forward to more tales from the road.
Keep the shiny side up, Greg.

Jim, you are a cheap one aren't you?
So you take Monday the 3rd in the afternoon.
Guess you are forgetting all the sightseeing tours Greg mentioned then? Hahahahaha...

Guys, don't forget he wants to stop and see a few "planes, trains, and automobiles" things on the way home, so he won't be making a "beeline" for Georgia. Of course, all that could change if he has "encounters of the mechanical kind".
Jairus, I see we were posting about the same time. Didn't mean to duplicate your efforts. Sorry.

I'm not cheap, I just like taking Greg's money.
Yeah, I forgot about Greg's sightseeing.

I'm not into the gambling pool thing but I'll donate $15 and I'll do it right now. That should buy a fast food lunch for two, anyway.

Funny guy you are, Mr. Bill.
The car is a lot older than I am.
The sad part is that it is in much better shape...

Well, we made it to Bend, OR, about 4:30 PM or so. The run to Burns is about 155 miles more and that would have been pushing our luck a little and as it turns out we made a wise decision.
Starting the day's narrative report now...

Good luck with that water pump issue. Looks like it's been leaking awhile.

Greg,
Stop at U-haul, rent a trailer, and bring this baby home safely.

Don't use graphite string for the packing. That is for slow turning shafts, like the water faucet. You want the lead packing rings with a coat of grease on them. For the trip home you can just unscrew the packing nut and push some grease in there and resnug the nut. This should keep the pump from leaking for the trip home.

Here's the neat thing. I posted to a forum called Ford Barn that the car was leaking pretty heavily past the pump packing and that while I had a gland nut wrench with me, I didn't bring any packing and thought I could make do with some generic plumbing packing.
Within an hour, a Model A owner here in Bend, OR, posted to let him know in the morning if I needed Model A water pump packing as he has some I could have!
