Back in post #58 Cheater said "I remember very clearly seeing the Big Boy at the Henry Ford museum many years ago".
Actually, Greg, a Chesapeake & Ohio 2-6-6-6 #1601 is the one on display at HFM, not a Big Boy. But don't get me wrong, that C&O is a giant as well!

It's been at least 30-35 years since I was at the Ford Museum, so it doesn't surprise me I would recall it incorrectly.
Guys, we did over 650 miles today, after getting on the road at 6:15 AM and we just got to our hotel in Evanston, WY. My post for today is probably going to have to wait until tomorrow morning, as I doubt I can stay awake long enough to do it.
Got some great pictures and a couple of great stories to relate, so it should be worth the short wait.

Aah, Ron, you're a sharp one.
Our planned route was I-25 North to I-80 West and I did probably overstate the mileage a bit, as I forgot we stopped short of our intended destination. I said I was tired...
We took a side trip to Estes Park, CO, to see one car-related place and ended up running into a very interesting vehicle on the road as we started out of town and that let to a visit to a second car-related place. More info in the morning...

A significant factor for all internet forums has the been the increasing percentage of viewers who access Slotblog via cellphone. This has had a discernible negative influence on ad revenues, as far fewer syndicated ads can be displayed to cellphone users as compared to viewers accessing from traditional computers or even tablets.
My flippant reply was meant to point out (hopefully in a humorous manner) that, as a non-subscriber, there is no "money's worth" for you. If by your actions and your post above, you wish to infer that Slotblog is worth to you "exactly what you're paying for it", I can deal with that.
Greg, I only access Slotblog with a PC, so I am able to minimally support the site that way... not via cellphone/smartphone, because I don't have/need one. My comment was purely in jest.
I took your reply to it... well... pretty much in jest, but felt somewhat scolded. I am barely aware of the fact that one can subscribe as a way to support the site monetarily, but I do know that we are encouraged to make ebay purchases through the site.
My reply to your reply was not meant as a hostile retort in any way... it too, was in jest... the "advice is worth" comment was merely an explanation.
I hope your trip continues to go well.

John,
Please don't feel scolded but you can feel slightly used, as I took advantage of your comment to make a point, that being that out of over 4,000 full members, a scant 84 have become subscribers in support of the forum.
Just like NPR/PBS stations, Slotblog is member-supported media and without a sufficient level of fiscal support, it will eventually disappear or mutate into some sort of "pay to play" scenario.
It doesn't surprise me that slot racers to a large extent don't grasp that their support of the hobby's infrasctructure is necessary, as the history of the hobby suggests it is a common theme. Ask any track owner or ex-track owner!
You posted, "I am barely aware of the fact that one can subscribe as a way to support the site monetarily." Well, it's not a secret, since this THREAD is pinned atop the General Slot Cr Racing forum.
It was probably wrong of me to drift this thread off-topic, but I wanted to make it known that several new approaches to upping Slotblog's revenue are being considered and that an increase in voluntary support would go a long way toward preserving the status quo.

Speaking of membership support I looked at the non-subscribers signed in on Slotblog last night around 8 PM. Would you believe that these non-subscribers had made a total of 34,024 posts yet had not contributed one single dime to help support "their" forum. Several were well in excess of 5,000 posts...

Already posted, Ron.
And what I relate is what happened the previous day, as what will happen today is still a mystery, especially as we're mostly making it all up as we go along! LOL!

Don, to be fair, your statement is accurate only in reference to supporting the forum via becoming a subscriber. It's very likely a number of the non-subscribers you saw have provided support to Slotblog via one of the other methods available.
But, as RVW says, let's leave this subject in this thread now, as it is off-topic and probably unwise of me to have brought it up here. My apologies...

Greg,
Thanks for taking the time to both take and post pictures along the way. The museum shots were great, as were the pics of that immaculately restored fire engine. That was a beauty to behold.
Safe journey to you both.

If you ever find yourself north of the cheddar curtain, there is a killer steak joint a short drive from Alpha raceway.
Haase's Supper club, Winnecone WI.
105 ounce prime rib is $48. (couldn't finish it, had the meat sweats all the way home.)
All you can eat T-bones in the summer, $29.95. They start you off with three. 1" thick and the size of a toilet seat.
Oh, and the baked potatoes weigh a pound all by themselves.

As I type this, we're having steak and melted provolone sandwiches in our hotel room in Pendleton, OR, using the leftovers from last night. Yummy!
Again, too beat to post tonight. Will bring everyone up-to-date in the morning before we head out to McMinnville to see the car for the first time.

I know; my quip was a tongue-in-cheek response to it... LOL!
There's an old joke about an old guy in a restaurant seated next to a table of much younger people who are loudly carrying on about drinking, smoking, skirt-chasing, etc., within his earshot.
Finally, having heard enough, the old guy marches over to their table and announces, "You kids all make me sick. All you care about is drinking yourself into a stupor, smoking anything you can get your hands on, and bedding any female you can seduce. You won't live very long pursuing those habits.
"I've never touched a drop of alcohol in my entire life nor ever smoked one cigarette or anything else. And I've been absolutely faithful to my wife of almost 60 years.
"And tomorrow I will be celebrating my 80th birthday."
One of the kids he's addressing shoots back, "Oh yeah, old man? How?"
