The young Marcin Patrzalek is amazing. Jeff Lynne integrated guitars into his use of Beethoven's 5th as embellishment for his version of

"Roll Over Beethoven".

The Bach piece relies heavily on guitar syths, something I got into for a while in my new-age jazz period. I am puzzled by the rather

unique layout of frets at the high end of the one musician's guitar. Frets are placed based on a mathematical formula, and I don't

understand how having them laid out at an angle works. Any error in intonation is usually corrected at the bridge. Plenty of good

ol' Strats in attendance, though.

Dave, don't you think the bridge or the tuner keys must have been placed to keep proper intonation of those strings?   It looks like a lot of traditional chord shapes would be hard to finger, though.

If the bridge was on an angle, all the frets and the nut would be also on an angle. The formula for fret placement does not

change from string to string. And if that method of fret placement was correct, all guitars would have the frets placed like that.

Over the 55 years that I have played guitar, and the hundreds of guitars I have done custom work on for other musicians, I

have never seen that fret placement. Which is why I will, when I have time, research the theory behind it. Placement of the

machines (tuner keys as you called them) have no bearing on intonation.

You are right,  the nut  angle would make a difference, not the keys.  I need to look at the video again and stop it for clear view.

I just checked that out. The bridge and nut are severely angled as well, making the scale longer on the low strings and shorter on the high strings. The frets have to be angled to divide each string up properly. Each string's frets are still spaced normally for each string's scale length.

I'm not explaining it well but as guitarists I'm sure ya'll get it.

That's interesting and I get why they did it, but not a guitar I would want.

I just found them. "Fanned frets" is what it's called. And there's a ton of different guitars and basses made this way. So I guess it's  nothing new. I'm surprised I never knew of them before now.

I just read that, thanks for posting. I understand the concept, but don't agree with it. The "timber" of the string can just as easily

be controlled through string gage. Heavier gage requires more tension, and through physics will be "brighter". I guess I am not

surprised that Bartolini would be pushing this. I do see an advantage in the the frets are closer at the upper end, making faster

fingerings possible. I guess I have just been out of the guitar manufacturing loop too long.

By the way, I still don't accept six-string bases. I rely on my old Fender Jazz and Rickenbacker 4001, just as all the pros you

see on stage still do.

It is plain now,  something for the truly serious pro that pushes the boundaries of the standard 6 string.

Orianthi Panateris is incredible. First saw her in the Michael Jackson video, and she played with Richie Sambora for a while. Daughter of an Aussie

hard rocker, she grew up with it. Kinda cute, too!

This live version I found online was excellent, especially the second singer Darla Beaux. Not an easy song to get right.

Micarelli is good. Not Jean Luc Ponti, but good. As for the girl group, only in Santa Monica. Some minor talent in the lead player.

I ran across this act last week, and for the life of me, I cannot get this song out of my head! Let me know if it affects you the same way.

Sean certainly sounds like his dad. And what a departure in style for Les Claypool. Great to see an old King Crimson

tune resurrected. I was a fan back in the day.
