I don't often like cover songs featured on tv talent shows, but this one gets me every time, by Alice Fredenham

This next one is a soulful version of Something. Beatle George said it was his favorite cover version of the song, and I can see why, as James really made it his own.  George said he had it loaded into his home jukebox and would play it for guests sometimes at parties.

Best Beatles cover was Hey Jude  by Wilson  Pickett and Duane Allman.

Not really on topic but....

While relaxing this weekend a song popped up on iTunes I haven't heard in a while: Ball of Confusion by The Temptations. With everything that's been happening in the last few years this song is just as relavent today as it was in 1970... well, except for the Beatles and the Pandemic we're experiencing.

Pickett called Duane Skydog because he was always high.  That's how he got the name.  Tom Dowd said when he got Eric Clapton and Duane together, the first thing Clapton asked  Tom was if that was  the guy from "Hey Jude".

Found this act over the weekend. An interesting take on a Guns 'N' Roses song:

I prefer this version, on a true Spanish flat-top. I get tired of the "most requested" covers, I like to see them re-arranged in a simpler version.

I have a prety good set of Altec/Lansing computer speakers on this system. That sounded really good.

This was interesting.

I was looking for this thread the other day and couldn't find it. I love everything Beatles. The "Peatles" do great covers of Beatles songs.

Probably as good a Pink Floyd cover band as I have heard. I believe they are from Brazil. Interesting to see the keyboardist playing what appears to be a Rickenbacker "frying pan" lap steel guitar from long ago.

Any other Puddles fans out there besides JB and me?

Always disturbing to say the least.

How did I get from Atom to this?

Ok, guys. This is the ultimate cover. I was never a rabid Beatles fan, but George Harrison was one of my favorite songwriters, never given his due. Here is THE cover of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", one of my favorite Harrison creations;

Is it a cover song when 3 of the original performers of the song are playing it? I would say it's not.

PS: The Beatles are the reason I ask for a guitar for Christmas, 3 different Christmas's! The last one was 1956 Strat my dad bought from the classifieds for $175 dollars. I wish I still had that one!

I call it a cover if the writer isn't involved.

Lucky boy. My folks couldn't afford to buy me such nice things. My first electric was a Telsco bought from an E. J. Korvettes store with lawn mowing money. But as soon as I knew the guitar was going to be my instrument, I bought a well used Strat. Don't know what year but certainly pre-1962 since the finish was already starting to crack and peel in 1965. I traded it in for a Rickenbacker 370-12 in 1969. Still have that. I learned on an Aria Spanish flat top and a Epiphone arch top. But took up bass in my first band, "The Travel Agency", one of many with that name in the Chicago area at that time. Yes, the relavence was to LSD.

Just semantics: My favorite bands write their own songs. But many/most don't. Plus there are many songwriters that never perform their own or anyone else's songs. They just write

Is "Lineman for the County" a Glen Campbell cover song? I bet Jimmy Web would say it's not.

I think your parents were so disappointed you weren't a Beatles fan that they didn't think you deserved a nice guitar. ;)

I love Jimmy Webb.

He used to be a fairly regular guest on a local radio show.

By the way, the name of the song is Wichita Lineman.

I love it and Galveston, another Jimmy Webb song, popularized by Glen Campbell.

OMG...E.J Korvettes, boy does that store name bring back memories.  My allowance was $2.00.  Aurora Thunderjets were $2.19.  Every time we went there I bugged my parents for $0.19...they finally just gave me that amount so I wouldn't keep asking them  LOL
