New JK stamped chassis

Oh, and my X11s are doing pretty well, also. My Mossetti Patriot remains pretty lonely but feels like it's styling with the shiny aluminum pan and all. I've checked and there is not a thing wrong with any of them.
Heck, even my Champion Turbo-Flex still gets to run at least once a month despite being long past it's "Use By" date and is most definitely showing its age.
The new kid on the block, the JK "A" chassis, is acting like he's the fastest gun in town. I can't argue with that. But there is always a kind of "je n'est sais quoi" factor with newly-developed equipment. Personally, I love trying out new equipment. This is one of the great joys of slot racing for me.
As always, YMMV.

Hmmmm... I feel bad for him. First ISRA accepts it and now ISRA has him on notice they are deciding on what a stamped chassis is.
I'd be running myself out of stock too until they get it together.

ISRA legality has little impact on US sales.
If it was, ERI would be stuck with them, instead of out of them.

I think that's only one possibility Mike. If after ISRA meeting Mossetti got told his chassis may be deemed illegal, and JK's new one would be legal, and he then ceased making more, might they now have finally sold out but not yet been replaced?

I'll try again.
There's probably at least 20 times more racing in the US that doesn't care what ISRA has ruled on.

Sure I get that, big place, many people. But it might affect Mr. Mossetti...

They were hard to get when they were ISRA legal.
I think I sold about 6 total, and I had to beg for those.
Do the math.
For a raceway owner, a chassis's best ability is its availability.

Yeah, I do get that.
I recall you had quite some issue.
Assume the JK chassis has been seamless in supply? Prob a lot more made... because once the dies are made it costs nothing to make, and China won't do a run of 25 pieces...

The Mossetti chassis has had some supply issues for sure. I heard one entire run had to be scrapped due to an error by the heat treat shop.
I know for sure that the supply issue will be resolved very soon. I have five of them built for various classes and they perform very well. I can see some epic battles coming up between the Patriot and the new JK.

"... on what a stamped chassis is."
In today's world stamping is expensive obsolete technology. Manufacturing costs make it too expensive.
That said, there needs to be a way to control consistency with no modifications from the approved sample.

If this is the actually part of the original design it should be listed on the JK website. I planned on adjusting the "horns" before I saw this post. The the only change I need to make on my chassis is the guide tongue. My pans were straight and flat out of the bag. Can't wait to get it on the track.

It is part of the original design effort for the chassis.

Over the weekend we had an informal BBQ and race/test/play at a private raceway in Tauranga, that I haven't driven before.
The new chassis did well, and it suffered a fair few wall shots and even a couple of hard landings on the concrete out side the garage the track is in, as I learned the track and how far it can be pushed.
After a good day of this treatment, the chassis hasn't suffered any bends of discernible damage and still sits flat on the block which bodes well for its future.

Steve - I would be very interested in hearing how this change helps your times. By your pictures you have raised the outer pans higher than they need to be. Please keep us informed.
Wel,l I just TQ'd our Grand final and won it...

Hi Dennis,
Not so sure about epic battles. I hope this doesn't come off sounding too bad but only two teams (well at the back) out of 59 teams at the ISRA 2016 production class ran a non-Cheetah chassis. That's 97% of the best racers in the world that ran our Cheetah X-25.
The Cheetah Aeolos is notably faster than our X-25 (about 0.2 second on many tracks). There won't even be an epic battle with the X-25 (the current world champion fastest chassis) and the Aeolos as I expect that nearly every team will be running the Aeolos at the 2017 ISRA worlds.

"By your pictures you have raised the outer pans higher than they need to be"
I'd probably agree if he was racing it with .032" or .062" rear clearance - but he's running it with .020".
So I'd guess having a little less pan droop is working on his track.
I'd like to see a photo of the underside before the car is cleaned.
If I'm right, theoretically, he has a nice thin scum pattern.
Whatever he's doing, it's working - on his track

Steve, did you run the chassis with the pan horns touching the outriggers? If you go to the pictures of this years ISRA Championship race and take a look at the winning team car chassis (a X-25) you'll notice they tried a similar pan set up as the C-43 comes with. It appears that the rear bite bar uses a single central contact point and the front horns appear to be bent in such a manner that they are not touching the outriggers and the pan is pivoting on the front crossbar. You'll also notice that the pan was touching the track maybe that's the way to go for better handling. Congrats on your win it proves the new chassis is a valid contender.

I'd say the front of the pans were perfect height - just a wee bit of scum on both sides

Most of the scum on the pans is just excess build up from the tips thats got dragged back.
I cleaned most of it off near the end of the race with a rag, so thats just a heats worth
plus in transport home the tips have gotten cleaned up a bit
There is a large build-up that happens between the pan tips and the wing tips where they rest together and this does slow down articulation and kind of gums them together preventing easy up/down movement, maybe this is actually helping too? Dunno, but it's a good fast car now..
