One source is McMaster-Carr. They also have .040 thick and a mirror finish 3/4 hard .031 that has a slight bow in it due to it coming from a roll - very difficult to get it flat.
Sorry about the nerf. "Sorry? Sorry? There's no apologizing in slot car racing!"
Besides, where would I even begin? I should probably start with my wife ...

Tony, with the axle on the pans what acts as an up stop for the pans? Looks very interesting if time consuming. Thanks

Thanks Tony. I have a lot to learn. I note the wire support for the body. Have you done back to back tests or is it - it won't hurt? There is no silicone tape on it. Unneeded with this design? The tape seemed to work on the flat track at the Ck Pt but I detected no difference on the King. Since I was over weight for the BPR King I left it off after testing. Thanks again!

Tim, what's the gray leadwire you're using on this car?
I intend to live forever! So far, so good.

Something Dennis put on. It's actually white in color. Stiffer, maybe 20 gage

I finally got around to building tuning-fork retro chassis. The inspiration for this build came from TonyP. With about 10 minutes to go in practice for the last GRRR Can-Am race, Tony approached me and asked if I would like to run his tuning-fork chassis which I believe was built by him in the last couple days before this race. I tried it on the track and it appeared to be a couple hundreds faster than what I was going to race. So I said, yes. I qualified 5th out of maybe 14 drivers and went on to finish a good solid 3rd. In GRRR, it seems like the tracks have been more loose than last year, so I thought that it was time for me to build something with more flex for more rear grip. The straight rail is 055 while the tuning-fork rails are 062. The chassis as pictured weighed in at 43.6 grams. Complete RTR car was 99.5 grams.

The brass side pans were 3/4" wide 0.016" thick strips. I drew a diagonal line across a strip and cut the line with a thin dremel disk. Then some filing and I had two nearly identical side pans. The pans are surrounded with 055 steel wire. Did I answer your question?

I like it Dom. Admittedly at first I was confused, I'm so used to seeing cars built with the main rails on the inside of the pans rather than the mains being the actual perimeter of the chassis. How much pan movement do you think there is in it? .010-.15 or so?

James, there is about .015-.020 up/down and front to back. The nice thing is no shaving of the pans is needed to make everything fit. Once the nose was cut the rest of the chassis went together pretty easy.
The goal of the design was to have similar flex to a F1 with a 3/4" bracket and 8 rails of .047 but have a little more rigidity.

First new retro build since 2013, (been building a lot of drag chassis) decided to try a tuning fork... think its 3.9" axle to guide. Rgeo rear, GVP nose piece, .047 rails. not sure what I'm going to do for pans. This nosepiece looks flimsy, bracing needed??? Leaning toward 3 .055 rails for lightweight pans kind of how DCR does them.
