Just staying on doesn't cut it anymore. Being a back marker is not so bad, you get used to it after a while. Lol.

I think it would be a good idea at the big races. 60 and over.

After building the track and finding out the way I want to race on it...I found myself on slotblog retro racing....and adopting IRRA rules....I decided to build my first F1 car in about 25yrs...always my fab cars....and I still love them a lot...anyway I wanted to share my build.
I've tried to keep this one simple...built out of .750 wide center and .250 pans....and .063 thick....the Honda is a fairly narrow build so I thought .063 was about right...it turned out 114grams total weight...close to the 100 gram rules.
With a good motor and Samson fronts I won the points month series here...remember that this class is very new for all of us here in Oregon...so more to come in the future. So here is the build!😎

Started working on a F1 car. I have 3 different plates for weight. Took it over for some laps and was faster than any F1 on the local track yet. Encouraged!

Hey guys I got a bug to build today so this is what I built. It still needs to take a bath in the tumbler but I'm too excited to wait to hear what I did wrong!

I do have to trim the side pans back just a little up by the front tires...

Main rails are .062
.064 brass u set the guide and .032 pans.
.050 rgeo 1" motor bracket. .093 guide lead.

Hi Joseph

Nice chassis but a few suggestions if I may. First it does not look like you are polishing the brass and steel before soldering. This is very important for a strong solder joint. Second I would ditch the front axle holders and solder right to the axle and make more of the supports behind the axle. Also make the axle supports longer where they attach to the rails for more solder strength. Use less solder and more heat/acid. Transfer the solder to the joint on the iron tip a small amount at a time then reheat again if more solder is needed using acid again. Keep on building!!

Good start. I'd add some bracing to the rear bracket, especially with the top cut off like that. Keep the bracket nice and stiff is important.

Okay add rear bracing.
Ditch the axle tube thing (which was a fix to a mistake. The outter rails are so wide that there wasn't enough room for the jig wheels and the pins on the block. So instead of total disassembly I decided to make the tubes the right height and add the axle later. In hindsight I should have had the axle in before those outside rails were added. Damn rookie mistake.)

Clean the metal more before soldering. I do polish the rails to get that greasy crap off and I try and hit the brass but I do have to admit I don't keep cleaning as I go. I clean before assembly then build build build. Then tumble. So I'll have to work on that next go around.

Use less solder. Working on that one for sure. I'm alway worried it won't be enough.. I drive hard haha.

Here's a new one for me. It's been a while since I built a tripod so figured it was time to do something a little different.

59.3 grams (Center weight is 7.4 grams)
Rear weights are .064
.032 pans
Slick 7 guide tongue
Swiss 1" motor bracket
4" wheel base
15/16" guide lead

Dom-

Nice work!

Is the center pan removable by removing the forward pin?

Cheers
