Family stuff is caught up until next weekend. Here is a new retro pro for Bud Denning. This one originally had .078/.062 rail combo with a 3/4" guide lead and 3-15/16" wheel base. This new one has 7/8" guide lead, 3-7/8" wheel base, .062/.055 main rails, and .062 wire pan. Chassis was built using Chicago Lands new plated piano wire which was very easy to solder to and clean up. No thinning required. Pan movement is a copy of the original Bud gave me. As pictures comes in at 30.8 grams.

Dom, is there any movement back at the bite bar?

This one is set up pretty tight. 9nly about .010-.015 front to back movement and .015-.020 up and down movement.

ah, I see the .032 upstops now. pictures shot at an angle(instead of only directly above/below) reveal those little details.

That's going to be a light one. Are you adding a center weight Chris?

Maybe, gotta see how light it is first. I also need to see how well it works. The original car cornered great but could never get out of the corner very fast. Stuck at 5.6 on the hurricane. Hopefully this will be faster. Going for a light as it will go.

Starting doing some more building of retro can-am cars.  I messed up and started the soldering first and had some stuff come up and the rails corroded on me before I could get them finished.  Needs cleaned up still but should work nicely.

Nice!

You might want to try Swiss's plated wire. No more corrosion issues!

Thanks for the props, Richard.

The popularity of the plated wire is gaining more and more momentum, and a 2nd run of it, is highly likely.

One of 2 Jersey John Chassis heading to AUSTRALIA.
A WINGMAN.This is a combination chassis built with a little rock and some smooth jazz. All RGEO Components. Nose is a Dragon. Pans are Arrow. Z-poid motor bracket and a forward mounted movement bar like the one I use on my X25 builds. Controls all pan movement and doesn't allow pan droop.

Over the years, I have purchased more than a few retro chassis from some of our prominent builders, this however is my first Tony P chassis. It is truly spectacular in every respect!!!!!

Tony is a true "master builder". I can't wait to put it on the track for Sano12.

My latest endeavor...

This is my attempt at a hybrid chassis featuring 1/32 pans, a single .062 main rail that connects the motor bracket to the front, saddled with a single .055 steel rail on the outside. They are only soldered together at both ends, leaving room for tuning if needed.

Hybrid chassis 20180909.jpg

Fully dressed (including the body), she sits at just under 87 grams, so a little weight will be needed. But I want to give her some proper test time on the track before determining what it needs and where.

I confess that the design was inspired by two builders whom I respect greatly: Jim Fowler for the simplicity of design, and Don Weaver for recently introducing me to the beauty of using brass rails and how it can affect handling. Don always used the steel rail against the motor bracket, so I wanted to reverse the two and see if it feels and responds differently. Only time will tell.

If this design gives me anything to talk about, I'll return and report. If not, well...meh.

Jim, if you are going to tune the chassis by soldering the rails, you could try a silver solder. It's stiffer than 60:40 so you would need less of it.

JK kit with a 1"Swiss motor bracket and bearings. 6 rails of .055 wire. The pans are .062 wire. I originally tried .055 wire pans but didn't feel confident on strength.

So all 3 are Bartos chassis. The one in the middle was the heavy version of the 8 rail of.047 wire on the left. I don't need a heavy version on tracks I race on. So I converted it into a cross breed of both version and lightened it up. Weighs in at 99g.
