Thank you Mike,

The collars work perfectly without cutting. Add a thin spacer on each side and the overall width is 3.240" give or take a few thou taking tire flex into consideration. I didn't measure to the rim but had I done so the overall would be a bit narrower. Now of course, this will only work with a .750 bracket.

As for the short guide lead, I cannot comment on what others are running but the length is common on the cars I build for me. I've tried longer but the shorter lead seems to fit my driving style a little better. My last few builds have been shorter and my times are dropping and lap totals are increasing. I'm going in the right direction.

Mike also sent me a couple sets of the Chicagoland axle collars and like Craig I put a set on an F1 with a 3/4" wide motor bracket.  I needed an .025 spacer each side and with .800 wide rear tires it gave almost exactly 3.250. Super quality also.  You can also just leave the spacers out, center the axle and set your gears and just set your rear width accordingly.  Thanks Mike!!

New 4.5, tired of coined front ends, so something different: less weight in front... .040 nose piece, old long Slick 7 tongue, 5.15" axle to guide. Slider with minimal side to side movement, 8 rails .047, .50" wide side pans of .062, 1" Rgeo bracket braced w/ .063 brass pan & .078 wire. Just needs guide & wire to run...

BK_8;4.jpg

Should be much lighter than the 133 gm. stocker I now run. Still a little tweaking to do on it...

......Ok here is a "Tease" of something very different then my other builds. This is a "Very Special Build" for a secret client.Im not real sure how its going to run,but I think it's going to be good.Until it's shipped to the new owner I can't show it off on the net,,,or Im sure my legs will be broken,or worse.Weighs 44.7g,,and I think I can take a little more off,but at this point it will build a 92-93g car, which is much lighter then I thought it would turn out.........Better photos soon,,stay tuned!!!!........DC

Ben that Stocker chassis looks nice but if I were you I would get rid of those gears and go with what is proven to work.

??????????????...well I guess your going to be surprised then.........DC

BTW,I tested the new car at BP tonight,,,,and the track was So-So,,I used the body, motor and tires from the car I raced last month,,,,,but right off it ran low 4.30s on blue,,tuned on it for a few minutes and ran it on red,,,WOW what a red lane car,it was AMAZING,,,Easy low & mid 4.20s on red,,,I let Foamy test it and in about 10 laps he was running low 4.20s on red also,,Never had a car handle that well on red........so I need to wash it and ship it,but I need to start on one for myself.....also the car weighed 91.7...........DC

...LOL....well if you saw this chassis it just looks much heavier then it really is,I was shocked it was that light........Anyway at this point my goal is to build everything in the 90g range,I just can't drive well enough to try racing anything much lighter......remember Im just a angry old man and Im human,,,,not a "Alien Hybrid" from the planet "Slot-God" like Duran................We really need a 55 or over and born on earth class...........DC

Don, just because it weighs 84 grams... doesn't mean it's hard to drive. If you've had problems with light cars in the past, don't fall into the trap of thinking that... because it's light, it will never handle well. Figure out WHY it's not forgiving and don't assume it's the weight.

Im not saying your wrong,,,it's just month after month the guys with the 95G cars just get more laps in 8-heats,,my lite cars are missile on the good lanes,,,and only "good" on the slower lanes,,,,show me a 85g car win a race, not just a heat, and then lets talk..........DC

Could it possibly be that the podium hogs with the 95-100 gram cars could win with a 110 gram car??? Hmmmm.

I have no idea how easy or hard it is to drive an 84 G retro car around BP, but keep in mind, a car that might work great

in practice, in clean air, might get just tricky in a race, in dirty air.

Are the 2 middle rails going to be soldered into those tubes?

This design feature has been reviewed before and given the thumbs up  by Noose.Since it is not dead center, seems it is not considered a "Center hinge". OOOPS....Not IRRA tm. We'll let the powers that be decide.

That drawing by Craig is so much easier to read than a photo. How is it done?

I'm only asking, because if they weren't, it seems like the chassis would fall apart.

Yes I was wondering if there is something I'm not seeing, because it looks to me like the nose piece will slide right off the rails.

Mike is correct, the chassis will fall apart if the capture wasn't held in some form.

I have a couple different ideas floating around in my head about how I will achieve this. One being simple and the other a bit more technical.

Craig,

Have you followed this thread ?

http://slotblog.net/...ning-fork-idea/

According to Jim F, his chassis wasn't strong enough, and it had 2 additional .039" rails.

Granted, it sounds like he walled his car, full speed (??), due to a controller malfunction.

Yeah,I missed that.Seems like there should be two more outer rails to hold it together.

Looks like it will be another sub 100 g car.

:) Craig that is a nice design but IMO it needs at least two outer rails for support or it will look like a pretzel in a minor shunt with another car or the wall.
