A motor is only as fast as the chassis it's in.

Thanks Dom, I'll try it up there in practice and may run it or I may save it for Fall Brawl.

I don't know about wishbones, but you don't want to solder the tuning fork rails together except for one very small sweet spot. All you have to do is find that spot on you chassis Good luck
And never solder the wires in the tubes. Chassis will become very stiff.

Had some time to build today so I thought I'd try the flavor of the month with my spin. I'll try it tomarrow at BP. 35 grams ad shown. 3.7 WB and .700 GL, same as my others for a Gerding.

I LIKE that chassis, Jim! It's got features I hope to incorporate into my next King track build; I'm going to study yours carefully. I admit to not grasping the function of the little slotted pieces of square brass tubing at the outer edges of the nosepiece, behind the front wheels(?). What's going on there?

I like Tim's idea Greg; send me one for the Checkpoint PLEASE! Promise I won't wreck it.

Jim,
Nice build. That is what I call a Tri-Fork Chassis I have built them before I went into the Multi-Rail Phase. Never built one with the floating front fork though. I bet it will be killer. I might have to see how that works myself.
Here is what I am going to try next tuning fork wires soldered in front with the hinge added at the rear just in front of the fork.
Regards,
GVP

Tex, pretty sure those are pan stops
Doh!
Thanks.

Sq. tubes soldered atop "pan" wires (what I've started calling "perimeter wires" as there's no "pan" there) take the bite bar; little L-wires soldered to those tubes stick into the square tubes on front pan, to make downstops.

Well....I tried what Greg nicknamed the "Tri-Fork Chassis" yesterday at BP. Tried it first with the wishbone sleeve all the way forward. It chattered bad with Koford soft wonder. Moved the sleeve all the way back and it was much better but still chattered. Tried some dbl treated on giant hubs and it chattered worse. Did'nt have time to mess with it more and went back to my 12 rail. The TFC definately has less rotational twist than my multi rail chassis's I've built. So next I'll try making the outside rails pivot in the rear. I also plan on building a conventional Tri Pod 12 rail and 20 rail version with this style nose piece verses the the one I've been making. With this syle nose piece moving more of the mass behind the front axle, I'm hoping it will increase the bite.

After being at the track yesterday , and seeing some of these tuning forks that Bryan, myself and Duran have run , there does seem to be a weight limit to chassis at the current time on our King Track..... I have seen Jim Lange run unbelievably light cars, as has Don Campbell and Foamy, but none of these is faster down the chute on our King Track... Jim and Don have run cars almost 15 to 20 grams lighter than what I run, and they are no faster, and curiously, no faster down the straight where one would think that they would be with a huge weight differential....
There seems to be a limit to traction versus weight required with these cars going slower and less downforce bodies than say a wing car...
Today, on our Flat Track, Duran and I both ran Tuning Fork F1's and put them on the podium....

I'm sure we are all getting tired of posts showing yet another GVP chassis clone but the truly scratch built versions may be the exception. Some may say that because I've used a kit it's really not a scratch built but with as much slice and dice that has been done to this one it qualifies in my opinion.
Have a look at what I came up with.
It features a JK kit, Hanada 1" motor bracket and I've made an adjustable sleeve on the tuning fork that the new owner can place wherever it may work best for him.
Now to relax, been working on this thing since 9:00 AM

Yeah---this one I built a few months back---now has the back holes in the pans filled with the brass inserts the Hanada pans came with and that made enough weight transfer difference that it works really well on the flat track at BPR now!!
