Looks good !

What is the idea for doing the scalloped pans?

Iv switched to the wire pans to save weight,,and the there strong,,also since this chassis has .047 main rails,,,so by making the pans out of .047 everything is the same hight……………….and there are a few other "Pluses"……but for now there working out great……….DC

Let me take a guess.

It's to allow the body to work more or to keep the body from getting hung up on the pans.

Or just to look cool.

All three :good:

Very slick build Don, best of luck to the well known east cost racer that runs it.  :victory:

And now for something completely different on my Rick's Jig...

Silverado chassis 1.jpg

6.25 wb WRP dragster to go under a DRS Silverado Dually, will eventually be 3 rails of .055.

Steel motor box is a little clumsy, can't wait to get my hands on one of Rick's brass drag brackets...

Don't need no tuning fork here, but I think multiple rails will look real cool & be plenty stiff.

Well here is a first for me, completing two chassis in the same week.  Here is my latest design utilizing the GVP nose design.  My previous wish bone builds have been soldered solid so this one I left floating (monkey see, monkey do).  As typical I added my own little flare to the design.

CR GVP nose

Pans .064

Motor bracket 1.380" FSF

All rails are .047 including the wish bone.  Rails are only soldered at the nose and rear.

Weighs in at 56.6 g so should come in right around 109g.

It's been a while since I posted my very first build ( heavily modified JK kit copying the GVP style nose ). I figured I would post my 2nd and 3rd builds, both kit cars as well.

The first chassis is an RGEO GVP kit, which I did as a stock build with no real modifications.
Specs:
4 inch WB
.062 main rails and tuning fork rails
.039 hinge wires, .047 up/down stops
Weight ( with lead, tires and body added ) 115 on the money, a good number for a GT Coupe car at most of the tracks in my area.

image.jpg image.jpg

The second chassis is an RGEO Dragonslayer 3, which is also a mostly stock build.
Specs:
4 1/16 inch WB
8 rails of .047, 2 outermost rails are .032. Rails soldered solid front to back.
Chicagoland guide tongue brace
Can't recall weight at the moment, will check later on today.

image.jpg image.jpg

Up next will be this JK X25R I am building for my friend/teammate John Weaver. The build is actually complete but I forgot to take pictures of the finished product! Here is one of it midway through the build.

Some pictures of the finished X25R I mentioned in my previous post.
Specs:

4 inch WB
8 rails .047, soldered at the ends
JK guide tongue brace
Chicagoland Versa Bracket
The BB fronts were given to me for the build but I think they are made by Dennis Samson
Weight comes in at 108g RTR

Looking great James!  The tuning fork should work good at Rapids as well as the X25R.

My first brass build in 45+ years:

Another GVP from a kit. But I hadn't done anything like it since the original Jail Door days.

It was fun and I had to relearn a lot of stuff.

With my driving "skill" :shok:  I figured I'd better build it as strong as possible!

Thanks to:

GVP for the design

R-Geo for the kit and jig

All the builders here whose ideas I borrowed

Wow. First one in 45 years, eh? REALLY good job, Bill! It's very satisfying, building your own chassis, isn't it?

Thanks for the kind words guys.

Tex- yes it was at Polk's hobbies in NYC around 1966-68 that I built a couple of brass tubing jail door cars. The build was fun and satisfiying once I got the hang of it and i do want to do it again. Hopefully taking a lot less time! :)

Cheers

My first brass build in 45+ years:

WTG Bill, back in the game. Came out real nice. :good:

Question, is the lead wire retainer soldered to the box tubes, one rail or both?

Thanks Bob!

The retainer is soldered to the box tubes, that way it does not interfere with the flexing of the tuning fork rails.

Cheers

Gorski "Grand Prix Chassis" I like the designs on this build. Motor bracket front for more even flex. Super wide pans 5/16. Custom floppy hinges with bit bar. Protective front bumper. Ballbearing front & rear. There is a center piece you can add to the bit bar for more center weight. Dimensions fit together well.

Beautiful build John,

Are the inboard front BBs there just in case the aluminum hub front wheels get 'locked up' to the axle?

John,

Very nice job. Unique original design. Nice touch with the pin tubes.

Bob,I'm gonna' guess it is so the chassis can flex around the axle. Original design and very well thought out.
