Update:….This is the chassis that I built yesterday{The 4th}.I won the warm-up/test race today at BPR with it.The chassis handled like a dream,,and proved to be very strong, since the race was another "Destruction Derby"…..with a TON of track calls and crazy crashes,I was still able to run 334 laps,,and I think 4.08 was my best lap on blue lane……….I was also TQ with a 4.009……….Also Congrats to Mill Conroy as he was able to crash his was to 2nd about 2 laps back.I really felt I could "Checkout" from the pack,,,but the track calls every few laps stopped that from ever coming to be.Thanks to Dennis "Foamy" Hill for his great pit work……DC

…It's still warm off my cracked junk jig,,,DCR #51…I built this one for myself,,I hope to round-up Foamy tomorrow and go to BPR to test.At 38g it's pretty light, should build a 86-88 gram RTR……No rest for the Wicked,,back to work!……………….DC

My #105, one of three in the new ZuZuRayl configuration, intended for the tighter, technical venues like FastTracks & Rapid Rick's. These're built on the proven .047" center section from the Danse Fambeaux series, with .047" stacks in outer pans & .055" in the reaction pans. 45gr. as she sits.

Later today I 'm gonna get all long-winded and wordy in Duffy's Digs about how easy it is to bend wire, and then one of these heads off to Shakey George Blaha & two'll go up on the Parts Counter.

And then I gotta think through a new F1.

JK X25 Can Am Plus chassis, just an evolved version of a design I won alot of races with last year. Figure I'll start basic before doing more complex cars. Should weigh about 100 grams built, which I think will be good for Ohio tracks, but if I'm wrong I can easily trim the pans LOL Set up for .625 fronts and .785 rears

Here's my latest chassis, just finished on Friday(would you believe 6 weeks on the jig?! Yeah, I'm slow and easily distracted), TQ'd yesterday with a 4.06 on DSC's very fast Gerding King, and won the race(324 laps) by 9 laps. Only my 2nd retro Can-Am win in 7 years of trying. lol.gif DSC's latest/current series uses RETRO rules, so the PS4002FK is the only motor allowed and an 8-tooth pinion is mandated. The car was on rails and the motor was ballistic. I haven't had a car cover the field like that since Galveston 1970. EVERYone should get to experience that feeling ONCE in their life.

Tex,

I like the front axle as a stressed member of the chassis. Interesting design. Hope you don't mind if I borrow that for my IRRA CA+.

What size wire did you use on the rails?

Sam,

The rails are .062".

It may not be light, but it's strong. It took a couple of BIG hits and several smaller hits that had the potential to damage lesser cars. The fact that it handles so well and is REALLY strong makes this a chassis that I may try to duplicate later(gotta build a new King track F-1 first)... always need a spare.

Tex,

Covering the field by 9 laps for a win is awesome. Surviving wrecks to do it means you must have  driven it hard. Congrats on the win.

Well, I typed a loooong explanation about securing the body in front of the front wheels... and had a browser issue. So, I'll consider it an omen and shorten things up. I stole the idea(securing the body in front of front wheels) from Rick Moore(CMF3). I've been doing this on and off for a couple of years. I've had the front pin tubes ripped off before in collisions, so I beefed things up this time. I watched my car swoop around the lead-on, watched it go past me "at full chat".... and T-bone a car that had deslotted and was drifting down across the track. The other car wound up in the infield by the King track's banked turn. My car cartwheeled down the straight, coming to rest at the bottom of the bank. My car was put back in the slot, the power came on, and it was rock&roll as if nothing had happened. Here's a detail shot of how I beefed up my front pin tube mounts. NOTE: You gots ta put a really good kink in the body pin to keep it from getting ripped out in collisions. Securing the body in front of the front wheels on a narrow-nosed Ti-22 has the effect of an old-fashioned cowcatcher on a steam locomotive.... just shovels everything out of the way.

Took a close look at those front axle mounts. The way the wire wrapping is done makes re floating the axle a breeze. I'm cutting off my figure eight wraps and re doing them "Texas Style". Going to try those front body pins also.

Nice build Tex.

Regarding the wire wrapping, I hope I remember to make a slight change next time. I had measured how wide my widest set of front wheels were and used that measurement to determine where the angled main rails could be soldered to the front axle. BUT... I had neglected to account for the wire wrapping cutting into that measurement! I had to whip out a small file and file away some solder and even a bit of the copper wire on both sides. I got lucky and the fronts can just squeeze into the 3 - 1/8" slot on the tech tool. NEXT time, I'm going to wrap the axle inboard of the uprights only... or allow an extra 1/16" on each side... haven't decided just yet. The trick is to remember. What are the chances?  LOL

Actually that chassis was so good at the last Dallas Retro race I had to keep looking over to see if it was really Rich driving it! :laugh2:
