Nice chassis, Josh! I'm sure there's more going on there than my old eyes can see.

Getting up some building after months of obstinate and rebellious hands: LOOP GAROO F1 chassis from DUFFY Heavy Metal Industries.
This builds on the experience gained from four or five recent F1 sleds, moving toward the balance we're looking for between limited & controllable chassis flex and movement while paring back the number of vulnerable structures to a minimum, with as few bits & joints as possible that might break where you don't see it. The idea is to make an unfussy, straightforward sled that'll survive the rough stuff while giving you all the performance you need.
The structure's built around the ol' reliable .047ø six-plus rail Danse Fambeaux center section, but with the usual "forward flex" point of front motor face tapered back for rapid rising rate resistance while keeping the lateral flex & axial twist the same as we expect. The perimeter array is standard twin-pin Wallenda. 4" w/b + 1.062" lead, 49.9 gr. as she lies.

Nice stuff Duff.
Do you mind if I refer to it as the Empire State F-1?

Justin, the clearance in the sockets is .010" nominal. While there's a bit of motion there, the real idea is to delay transfer of mass inputs 'tween the perimeter and the center section, and to allow the center section to twist unimpeded.

Haven't post anything for awhile, but here's something completely different:
I have no idea if this works or not, but I thought it was a good idea at the time. Check the rest of the pictures on our FB page: https://www.facebook...=1¬if_t=like

That guy is way cool and looks very bitey....love to see how it'll go on the high bite @ SCR. Did you use 48p gears to get full sidewinder?
I'm going to bring my two newest up to Franks on Sat. This one below just got fully rebuilt and it was fine in marginal conditions @ FTH a few days ago. I'm sure this one is heavier (99.5 all up) than yours but I'm concerned about too much bite on this one @ SCR too. My other new one is much more conventional and should be OK.

okay, here's the dope on this chassis. 93.4 grams less the body; 99.0 with the body (no interior yet). 9/46 gear ratio (5.11) with .850 rear tires. The spur gear is a cut-down r/c car pinion & the gear side tire is flipped inside out to make the legal width. i don't even know it will work, but it should be interested. stay tuned, kittens.

This is a concept for a chassis that I built to run on a new Gerding King - We took the weight limit off - so I built the car as light as I could.
I have raced it once and it was OK - was my first Retro race for over a year and I hit many lanes for the first time during the race - so driving could do with an improvement. I ran a test session with a larger pinion and a small bit of lead on the nose - and dropped the times by 1/10th - it seems to be the fastest retro car to hit the track. Might go back and build one that looks pretty.

What does she weigh, Lindsay?

around 72 grams in race trim - but my scales are not that accurate.

WOW! That's light! I would think such a light car will be very touchy to drive fast AND keep in the slot! Good luck! Let us know how it goes!

It is very touchy to drive - changing the pinion from a 9 to 10 and adding lead made it better, when I raced it - it was from the bench to the track. I came third in the race and was within a lap of second but came off a few times too many trying to work out how to drive it.
Since then with lead and gear ratios it is now more stable and faster. Also in the race the motor was out of the packet and the only laps was a minute of pre race warm up. The motor has since picked up speed - is this normal for retro hawks.

Lindsay, are there other photos of this chassis posted anywhere? I'd like to see the bottom side of the chassis & a closeup of how you constructed the front plate beneath the front axle. Thanks.
I intend to live forever! So far, so good.

I would think ANY motor straight off the wall and onto the track would pick up some speed as it gets broken in.
What's it weigh with the lead on it?

Bill I think he's using a chi town steel nose piece with arm dye on it

Justin last test session - which was on the friday before the sat race - we got it down to 4.02 - trying real hard to break into the 3.9's. This was on retro power - playing with it - trimmed over .15 from the tuesday race.
Car sits now at 75 grams. Yes it is a Chicago front piece that I put arm dye on. The front is very simple - all rails 55 thou - side rails bend up at the front 90 deg to support front axle - only 1 support each side. The solder joint is wrapped with 10A fuse wire. Back end has rectangular tube to support axle tube, motor box has as many holes drilled in it as I could, the top of the motor box (where the motor is solder to) has been cut off.

well, i tried the sidewinder for the first time & it was incredible. i drove it for a couple of laps & asked jim f to take it around scr's blue king. he too was impressed; so was frank & paul g. the brakes was almost dialed out & it drove flat up the donut & on the lead-on, which is very good. going for a 10t pinion & rounding out the tires. i may be racing this in two weeks. burrito out.

….3 Fresh off the Jig customer chassis,,#55,#56+ & #57+.One is a SCRRA Can-Am Mid weight chassis and the other two are Can-Am Plus chassis….all are built for a high-speed King track. The chassis are a little different in weight & Length for different track conditions.Chassis weigh between 39g to 43g…….
The Can Am Plus cars are built for .760 rear tires & .600 fronts. With some Light-Weight OS bodies all cars should weight in the mid to upper 80g range………..Thanks,DC….. "DCR Slot Cars" on Facebook
