Very nice to hear the good results.....great job. Not sure if you said this was your first retro build but if so.....even more impressive. Even if not your first.......still very cool.

A nice little variant using the stock War Beaver center section with a Wallenda perimeter array - well, what else could it be? "Wally And The Beaver," right? Oh har.
Rails are .047ø, Wallenda tenons & rear bar .055ø in 3/32 tube. Floppy Brady pans're .015", and the .039ø tie bar doubles as their up/downstop. Sled masses 49gr. as it sits.

……Today I finished a F1 chassis for the up coming Boola race.I built this chassis with a removable center weight,,,that is just held in place with 2 .032 pins. The weight adds 8g to the chassis and flexes freely with the chassis.
This prototype can be run on the King at around 90g,,,install the weight to help on the flatter tracks,,and will also be able to run at the IRRA 100g minimum weight.
The basic design is from a chassis my Hero "Foamy" built about 2 months ago,,,so I ripped it off and tweaked it a little………friends can do that.
Since this chassis is a loaner I safety wired the front axle…I don't normally do this on my own personal chassis, because everyone knows that I never crash……LOL……well I haven't lost a front axle yet anyway….not yet……...
I'll be building & testing more chassis built for the IRRA rules very soon.
Thank you,,take care everyone……Don

I see so many excellent designs on here, but I wish more of you great builders would also offer some of the details -- such as the size of wire and brass you use. Are they all .063? I've found using .063 on F1s is about the only way to make required weight.
And Don, I really like the way you used the wire as floppies. I might have to give that a try to balance weight on some builds.

I gave dimensions! (Oh, wait, maybe I'm not one of the great builders who don't give 'em...)
Another thing about making required weight: being a little under allows you more room to tune by ballasting. Easier to put on than to take off, same as you can take out movement but not add it. Well, actually those two are opposite examples. I didn't phrase that real good. Great builders never phrase poorly.

Very nice work Don, but wouldn't the way you have the weight mounted violate the rule that all hinges must run in the same direction? The reason I ask is I had a stock car chassis with a similar mounting and was told I had to change it.
Proud to drive an American car, from an American manufacturer, assembled by American workers.

Yes, sir, you did !! And for that, I'm truly grateful. And yes, I consider you one of the great builders in this forum.
But we also have some others who exhibit true creativity here, and I just wish I could steal...I mean "leverage" some of their ideas, too.
Thanks to all. I enjoy seeing masters exhibiting their handiwork.

….Hello Raisin…The center weight is just that,a weight,Iv hung it loosely so that it won't bind-up the chassis in anyway……just pull out the pin the the weight drops out…………DC

Hello SlowBeas…..for the most part on Can-Am cars .047 rails work best for me,,,and F1's are a huge pain to get to work,,,but .063 or .047 rails seems best for me,,the new chassis in the photos are all .063 rails,,a combo of piano wire & brass rod……..You can see more of my chassis on Facebook under "DCR Slot Cars"………..Thank you for looking…DC

Just a update on this chassis,DCR #58….Gary Donahoe was just drove this car to a 2nd place in F1 at the Boola Bash at BPR…..The chassis is less then a week old,,with only about a hour track time in testing,,,,so I think I have the Evil F1 Monkey off my back,,and understand what I need to do for bite on the High Speed King with over the counter wonder rubber…….So I can live with 2nd,,and better F1's designs are all already dancing in my head!…..
….Also Gary was 2nd in the overall points for the Boola Bash,,,with the Great Bryan Warmack winning the overall points, with Mill Conroy 3rd,,Congrats to Bryan,Gary & Mill on there long weekend of testing and racing!………DC

Don, your new F1 chassis worked very well. I believe it was as fast, or maybe just a tiny bit quicker than Sam’s winning car. Sam drove a great race with fewer mistakes and prevailed by a couple laps.
I believe your chassis has a great combination of speed and durability. I look forward to trying it with the center weight installed on the flat track. My bet is that it will be very good there as well.

Here's one I finished a few weeks ago but did not have a chance to post. I finished 2nd with it at NERR in October on Pioneer Valley's King.
.032 brass nose
CR guide tongue
.064 pans
.064 side weights
CR 1.380" motor bracket
.047 rails and wishbone
15/16" guide lead
4" wheel base
112.5 grams with body

Garry,
The flat stock starts as round piano wire.
He has Bryan Warmack grind it down for him if I'm not mistaken.
I'm not certain of the size he starts with, may be .125" material.
