"To solder or not to solder is the question?"  :victory:

I suppose a reasonable answer to this question is..........why did you put it there? What was your intention with that feature?

I can of course solder to fixate it, but my question is if it would be a  form of "tuning" point depending on what the ride is on, a flat roadcourse or a banked ditto!

I don't have any track to try this out on, therefore the question? If there is any out there who have found the "sweet" spot for a flatster and for a banked track, I´m very thankful for thoughts on this?

I'm not sure where the "sweat spot" is,. My suggestion is to put a ear ring back wire retainers on both the front tubes and your sliding tubes. Then the lead wire will maintaim the position of the slider during your testing.

Love to hear how (the) angle winder runs.

well, i tested the f1 a/w on scr's flat road course & it was a-maz-ing.  geared at 11/38 with a s7 mini-brute motor, i was able drive it full punch in the donut.  the computer wasn't on, but the time was probably in the mid 5-second range.  the car is a blast to drive; too bad i can't race it anywhere.

….A New DCR Can Am I built for Rick Linn to race & test at the monthly SCRRA race at BPR.I was happy to say the chassis/car ran very well,,as Rick only had about 10-15 laps on the chassis before qualifying and was able to run a 3.96 lap for #2 {Behind my hero Foamy!}……but in the race our motor went flat in the first heat and it was down hill from there…..{But Foamy WON!!!}…….oh well,,,better cooler stuff for next month,,and a few dozen fresh Retro Hawks…….DEAD-FLAT MOTORS WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN!!!!!…..

……..LOL………Take care everyone…………..DC

Here are some pics of my brand new WAR BEAVER FORMULA ONE chassis by Duffy. The workmanship is impeccable. Looking forward to putting everything together so that I can race it in the next GRRR event.  The chassis as shown weighs in at 46.2 grams.

I think that I got the first one. The chassis shown was soldered together by Duffy. Like I said above, the workmanship is awesome.

Awww! Your driving is awesome, Doc, let's be a team and scrape up some glory here!

Yes indeed, this is the proto kit build that we did for the instuction-sheet photoshoot, using all the parts & procedures that go into the bag. - Minus the blurry bits. Unless that's your thing.

…….UPDATE!……..Well the race went "OK"….Im just a bad loser, always have been…..anyway we raced the BPR Flat Track SCRRA Can Am for the first time today,,my driver Rick Linn drove a good race,,this guy is a real "Star",,,,,but we came-up one lap short to The Old Retro God,,Mr Bryan Warmack,so we had to settle for 2nd{Or first loser}……..Overall the new car ran nice{#72} and weighted 115grams………...I learned a lot about the "Evil Flat Track" and I hope my next chassis can run even better……..Im sure I'll be on "suicide watch" for a few days……..but I'll be better in a week or 2……Back to the King Track for a few races now……………….....Thanks…….DC

Ok. new guy. technical question.

I note that the hinge points for the wing/pans are not in line. I would think that would cause a bind. will it effect handling ,  twist kinetics, etc. ??

Or is there a desirable effect from the geometry change; say, as it hits a high speed curve under power?

Thanks

Nate

The pan movement is usually small enough that the pan hits its stop before it binds.

I do think that in some cases the more movement in the rear of the pan than the front may be a plus.

then again I would like to hear from some of the experts too.

…..You got to believe me,,,the Donuts REALLY DID HELP!!!!!!………I hadn't eating a donut in months & months,,but after sleeping in a chair for the last 3-days with having to go to work and building this car,,,donuts really helped in killing the pain and a nice sugar "LIFT"………….DC

Hi Nate,

Eddie was right about the pans... they move so little, the hinge alignment isn't really a issue. Also in some way with the hinges offset like that it acts as sort of a damper.

On this chassis the front hinge tube also helps strengthen the brass upright that holds the front axle up. I like to solder the rear hinge tube next to the motor bracket to help hold the bracket and main rails together... sort of "box" everything together.

Take care, everyone.

... DC
