Nice. I noticed the front tube against the upright. Makes a lot of sense mechanically.
Takin it all in and takin' notes. Best way to learn.
Thanks.

... the front hinge tube also helps strengthen the brass upright that holds the front axle up. I like to solder the rear hinge tube next to the motor bracket to help hold the bracket and main rails together... sort of "box" everything together.
Yup... I look at every brass part or wire added to a build and ask ... "Can this perform two functions for the (weight) price of one?" Especially if it mounted anywhere above the deck.
It's like getting two donuts... "sweet".

This is a New DCR "Evo Chassis" #2... Rick Linn drove Evo #1 to victory at BPR yesterday and tied the track lap total record of 352… I was able to crash my way to second with 346 laps.
Both Rick and I where able to turn laps in the 3.9s on several lanes during the race. The Evo design is not only fast with great bite, but has proven to be very strong!!!
The drawback is they take many-many hours to build... I don't plan to build many of these… LOL!
Thanks for looking,
... DC

It looks strong, Don; good job! Any time your car can take a hit, be put back in the slot, and it just keeps on running... that's a good thing.

Ralph,
Nice job on this car. The quality of your workmanship shows you've built a few others before.
I have a couple of those Yeti brass nose pieces to use sometime.

Thanks, Bill.
This is build #7 after 30+ years out of racing slot cars. The Yeti nosepiece is over 30 years old and I have one more myself.
I tested the car yesterday and was real happy with how it handled. The fastest lap was 3.880 on the King at Mark's Model World in Canton, OH.

Making my first attempt at Retro Can-Am this weekend up at the hotel race hosted by the guys at HVR. Thanks to some help from Eric G.,Tom Hanson, Dennis Samson, and this lovely blog I came up with a car!
Got stuck here after a few hours...
Then ended up here awaiting wheels!
Found a set on 4.5 NASCAR I cut down a lot to test with until my Samson classics get here.
If you're familiar with The Race Place in NJ, I tested the car on their Red Lighting track. It's a flat track with a big banked turn and an uphill right after. This car is absolutely planted on that track.
Parma Ti22 and a horrendous rushed paint scheme... Yuck, will fix that next go around.

That's great that you'll make the race on Sunday.
Not such a bad paint job... I've seen much worse! LOL.
Try testing it on the Kingleman, then you can compare to the times turned during the Retro East race held in June.

The Door Lightened for the west coast. Gil Gundersen built this chassis originally and rebuilt specifically for Buena Park.Looking forward to running there next month.

Here is a new one for me.
4" wheelbase
15/16" guide lead
.078" outer rails
.047" inner rails
.032" brass nose
Everything else is .064" brass
57.7 grams
A motor is only as fast as the chassis it's in.

Cap,
Hard to tell from pictures... shaker/slider/torsion?

They're just the stock type pan mounts; I just had to do them slightly different because of the thicker pans.
They're floppy type pans and just kinda float in the back stops.
