Some more done tonight.

Motor bracket Rear bracing is done.

Chicago Land motor bracket.

IMG_2750.jpg

1/4 wide X .062 brass at the front followed by two .062 wire braces at the rear, one inside the bracket and one outside. the outside brace serves as a double where the main rails (Chicago Land plated .055) are soldered to the motor bracket.

IMG_2751.jpg

Also soldered the axle tube in place after centering.

Tube is 1.25" wide.

Just tacked in on one side for this shot.

IMG_2753.jpg

Fully soldered in now.

IMG_2755.jpg

IMG_2757.jpg

Put some rear tires on that will barely pass tech for diameter and the fronts that will be on the car.

Fronts are way to big (.850) need to true them to the proper size.

Front end is sitting much higher than the rear, Rear clearance is right on the money with the tires that are on it.

Bare chassis is completed!

Pin tubes installed and rear axle tube cut.

IMG_2764.JPG

Dang it! nicked the rear brace when i was cutting the rear tube.

Here is a bottom shot of the chassis.

IMG_2768.JPG

Just enough rear tire clearance to not rub the main rails.

And a top shot.

IMG_2769.JPG

IMG_2770.JPG

Trued the front tires and the chassis sits much better on the jig.

IMG_2771.JPG

ABEC 7 ball bearings secured with red Loctite.

IMG_2772.JPG

Next is trimming and mounting the body.

Nice job on the chassis.

Try touching that nick with a dab of solder.

Nice craftsmanship, Scott  :good:

Anybody who claims they never nicked something with a cutting wheel is probably lying   :laugh2:

Like Swiss said, a microdot of acid and a touch of solder fixes it. Just don't nick your fingers

Sand the nick after the solder & it'll polish right out. I've fixed deeper nicks than yours that way.

or, just put a very small dot of yellow paint/nail polish on it and let your opponents think you've made a trick part. i once put zombie green dots on my 16d magnets just to see the reaction. funny thing is, i thought the car went faster...

Got the Camaro Trans Am body cut and mounted.

Paint and final trimming around the wheel wells tomorrow.

IMG_2803.JPG

IMG_2804.JPG

IMG_2805.JPG

IMG_2806.JPG

New idea i had for marking cut lines around the body.

Harbor Freight brass compass slightly modified.

The adjustment screw is a fine adjustment that allows for precise marking.

Also used it to check and measure body height at the top of the finders.

It worked well at scoring a thin line all the way around the body.

I held the body in place and moved the tool down the side being careful to not push in the body with the tool, this would distort the body and make the cut line inconsistent.

Suggestions for further modification are welcome!

Next install a new CR-102 and gear it 10-27

then take it to the track and see what happens  :D

The inline car is finished  :D

The angle winder for weight comparison

IMG_2822.JPG

The inline is heavier due to the needed motor bracket and associated bracing.

The larger front wheels probably add a little to the weight difference too.

It will be interesting to see how lap times compare with the two. :good:

Yes it will be Eddie,
I was turning 5.3 or high 5.2 laps with the angle winder the last time I had on the track at ASCR.
I would like to get you and some others to run some laps with both cars for comparison purposes the next time I am at ASCR.

I ordered a JK Javelin body and picked it up from ASCR today.

Very nice little body except for one thing. It is only 3" wide could be 3 1/16 at the most.

So what to do. I could build at 3"wide or I could let the wheels hang out.

If I were building a drag car I think it would be a great body.

I like the look of it much.

Scott, Eddie,
Here's some new adjustable front wheel supports, I will be coming out with, in both .040" and .050" thickness, that might be of some value for your Trans Am chassis builds.

Interesting idea Mike. I will give them a try for sure.

When do you expect to send them to distributors?

I am thinking .040 would be thick enough.

I hope to have it ready to run on the 7th.
