It's true some racing series have strayed from that "stock" mantra. Obviously, in those cases for the better as far as building a better race car. In being fussy on doing your maintenance you are also being diligent on protecting yourself as the driver. I also notice your shop floor is clear of tools laying around. That shows concern for your helper's safety as well.
Just accepted to the Monterey Reunion this August at Laguna Seca.
This Reunion will have 40 GTO cars, no GTP in our race group. "We are pleased to inform you that your 1988 Chevrolet Camaro has been accepted into the 2022 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion Wednesday, August 17 through Saturday, August 20 at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.
On behalf of the Advisory Council, we are thrilled to be welcoming you to beautiful Monterey, California". https://hsrrace.com/....tsreunion2022/
Much to do, new period correct silver firewall material and a fresh 23 degree 358.
Racing buddy Hutch made a slot car to match. (just needs the clear coat)
I'm not very knowledgeable about 1/1 race cars. I wouldn't have expected for components to be located behind the rear tires.
Very cool car by the way. How much does it cost to build a car like that?
Hi Phil, It was built in 1987 so yes you are right modern cars might have the battery and fuel pumps in front of the rear axle for less swing weight and safety.
This car had 18 races in IMSA GTO and Trans Am in 88' and 89'.
That history qualifies it for the Monterey Reunion.
So to stay historic we restored it to a point in time Long Beach 89'.
Value of this car is fair since it was a privateer and not a championship winning historic car.
So mine is around $100k turn key where the championship history cars are $600k or more.
Today's modern Trans Am cars are a little over $200k with 850hp engines and sequential transmissions.
Here is the first time I saw the car, in a hot rod magazine.
Jerry Kuhn airborne, funny I thought I like my cars too much to risk damage.
Surprise 25 years later I bought Jerry's race car.
We raced at Long Beach in a historic group a couple years ago.
Until the snout of the crank decided to break off.
Well my avatar has one of my NHRA Jr Stock cars. The current 55 Chevy is my streeter--383 SB with single 4bbl and a Tremec 5 speed with overdrive. Rear fenders are tubbed so 15" wide cheaters can fit. Fun burn outs and leaves hard with 4:86 posi and Lakewood style traction bars. Just a car show cruiser now--here on the Central Coast on Fridays the 4 local towns all take turns with a "cruise night"!! Still fun after all these years--I've owned this one since 1973!!

Bad azz Tim!
What great history and great fun to enjoy today on the street.
My older buddy has had his 55 Nomad stored in his garage for 30 years, he knows it has a place in my garage if he ever lets it go.
The '55 is my favorite of the "shoebox" Chevys. In 1976 or '77 I helped a friend rebuild a '55 gasser that he found in a farmer's field. It was a well known car from the mid-sixties, and I wanted to restore it to exactly as it was back then. But Jackson wanted to do it his own way. I was now into restoring old sports cars. Regardless, once it was done and I had a chance to drop the hammer on it, it brought back all the same thrills I remembered from when I was a drag racer. Jackson is gone now, and I really wonder what happened to that "Ol' 55".
With all the highway shootings going on around Chicago, I think I have found my next daily driver. Set up with a quad Ma Deuce mount, I think the "gangstas" will have second thoughts about starting anything with me.
Found on Bring A Trailer, still current. Seems like the answer to me.
