"So what's up Doc? Aheee what is that thing."
"It is my newest invention in space travel"
The Dyn-ASTRO X-2 concept is base on the Looney Tunes character Marvin the Martian and the fact that an all Dynamic chassis and a Classic Industries ASTRO=V Thingie body was used to create this entry in the 2011 Dynamic Challenge.
The Dyn- is for Dynamic Models Inc.
ASTRO is for the Classic "Space Ship" body
The X-2 designation is a play on Classic's =V name also Marvin was the Commander of Flying Saucer X-2.
The car is powered by a new 50 year old Pittman DC-706 it is run in reverse considered to be true Looney Tunes. Over 2 thousand years of Martian research went into the real energy source known as Illudium Pu-36.
The pilot has control over the "Ray Guns" out front and the thrust nozzle boosters in the rear.
Those that know Marvin will respect the fact that he will not allow Earthling's to block his view of Venus or in this case the Finish Line. "This makes him very angry, very angry indeed."
"The Dyn-ASTRO X-2 is ready to destroy the Earth" and the competition.
Jarius, Please be careful the Illudium Pu-36 full rods do not get expossed. Since the crisis in Japan is over we sure don't want another "all-most" meltdown.
Oh, not to be too much trouble (err) could you:
Remover the tires pack them sep-er-rate a film canister.
Check the gear mesh
Remove all screws and put a bit of Loctite our Krazy glue on them.
Retighten with a click type inch pound screw driver
A little wax on the body
Zap the magnet- sing-u-lar
No need to true the comm, (but thanks for offering) I had it on a 4.5v suppy for 15+ hrs. Should be good to go.
Also, I forgot to put the part# of the body "bulletproof?" tape in the list above. Could you add 3M part# 8979N to it, Google it for a complete discription and spec.

I went through the top half and found one mistake in my count and one in yours. Will have to spend a little more time exploring your list.
Incidentally, my feelings about using multiple bits just for points I see as padding. For instance Joe's use of two sets of rear wheels to make a base for wider rubber negates the use of Dynamic parts. Why not just go with JK wheels?
And Bob's use of 3 lead weights to create the heaviest damn slot car I have ever held in my hands!
I feel only one set of "repeatable" bits should garner points and that is how I scored this.
Thoughts?
(Really folks, I just finished a beer and have no urge to start a flame war here. But since Rob brought it up, that's how I believe it should be done... refunds are available if you believe your feelings are hurt and want to withdraw from the competition and are willing to pay for the return shipping, forgo your t-shirt and accept the moniker "CHICKEN" for the entirety of this challenge race - which if it does not get started might just last until Big "O's" second term.)

5 points - and consider it very creative thumbs up JOE
And Bob's use of 3 lead weights to create the heaviest damn slot car I have ever held in my hands! my goal was 200 grams, missed it by 3.
5 points - but 3 the weights used was not about padding, That car was so freeking back heavy, you will see when ya run it, its "tippy" but stays in the slot . There were 4 weights on there but I had to replace one with a #402 adapter to get the body on right. If I put the Strombecker adapters on as lead wire retainers..(as considered) now that IS padding. We spoke about Spirit and Padding and I changed from the Purple 36D Motor combo.
I feel only one set of "repeatable" bits should garner points and that is how I scored this.
Body mounts: total of 4 sets, 3 different part #s... "re-pete-a-bull?" Say what ya want and score as you will.
Don't really care who wins, if everyone gets all points pissy then the fun goes away, For me..a top 25 finish with lots of video and pictures w/ happy faces, timely, detailed "spunky-fun-key" race reports, car is running at the end AND it comes back... life will be good.
MY car is built in the Spirit of FUN 1960s style.
Please mock the shi t out of it at every track and every race.. . but don't find yourself blocking Marvin's view of the finish line .
If it is FUN..and ego's are in check..then EVERYONE WINS!!!
" I survived the 2011 Dynamic Challenge" THAT is what it is about for ME!!!
Thoughts?
yes...see above

Back in post 54, on Bob's list of parts for his car, he shows;
"Dynamic #679 Wheel and Tire,-Rear, Siliconite"
Are they silicone tires?
Not trying to be tech nazi, but we will not run silicones on our track.

Just re-reading this thread, catching up on missed posts, and have a curiosity question.
Back in post 54, on Bob's list of parts for his car, he shows;
"Dynamic #679 Wheel and Tire,-Rear, Siliconite"
Are they silicone tires?
Not trying to be tech nazi, but we will not run silicones on our track.
As I click my heels - They are spares in the bag - Foam #695S on car.
"No Silicones for You" "No extra points for Me"
BTW they are not Real Silicone - there are "Silly-cone-ites"
Help, I have a curiosity question too - What do real silicones do to a race surface that created this law???
Gar-an-dam-teed not to de-stroy any track surface known to humans

And by the way, to get " no points " for the rear wheels as stated in a previous post is a little rough in my opinion.

Bob, you are correct in your addition, 80 points and I fixed my records. I will be going back over my list and compairing it to Rob's list today.
If anyone has concerns please PM me.
BTW Silicone wheels will not destroy any track surface unless it is the tiny bit of rubber it leaves behind. However, what it does require is a super clean track! You cannot run foam tires and Silicone tires at the same time. As the track gets dirtier the foam tires begin to bite while the Silicone start to slip.
Steve is correct, some tracks will not allow Silicone simply choosing one or the other. Silicone works very well on plastic tracks.

Wow, Picky,Picky. You guys make me out to be a " points slut " The reason that I used 2 rear wheels on each side is because I love the look of those wheels but in that diameter they only make " skinnies ". Just the fact that I finished a car and entered it is a milestone for me. Like a lot of people I have physical limitations I have to deal with every day. Not a sob story, just a fact. One of the real reasons I entered was the thought of having my car bashed into the wall by one of the all time immortals in the sport . Anyway, I have no Hudy and I am no expert in the field of tire truing as you will see when the car hits the track. If someone wants to true them be my guest. Right now they look like they were trued by this guy.
And by the way, to get " no points " for the rear wheels as stated in a previous post is a little rough in my opinion.
------------
Joe,
As I stated using two sets of wheels was a creative way to mount new rubber and get points for the wheels. Correrect me if I'm wrong but it didn't seem to be to get 10 points (5+5).
This whole point thing is getting pissy, if you don't get 5 points for your wheels that would be re-dick-u-las.
Stay cool, the brass pan rewind boys might be getting concerned as it is those guys that don't want "extra padding" Dynamic points awarded fairly or at each race. They may be loosing confidence in their "race" machines and are posturing.
We are out numbered.
Your car is very very nice (ya done real good Joe)
Old school Dynamic cars are cool.
I hope YOU win.
My car is ready is ready to start the "Challenge"
We are mosly old guys playing with toy cars just acting like kids again.

Back in the 60s when commercial track racing transitioned from silicone(a huge subject by itself) and foam. The racers started promoting myths about the tires with little factual basis to ban the stuff they did not run.
The primary myth, one I was hearing from collectors well into the 90s, was that silicone leaves some sort of residue on the track that makes silicone not work!
Oddly, silicone tires were a bad business model product for the track. Effectively my survivors from the era have not shown measurable wear. I have a set on a car with glas Maserati 4clt body that I cast in '62 that mike out well inside .01 of the original casting size in '62! But I digress.
What happens is that the tires that WEAR, rubber and foam rubber leave bits of rubber on the track. After "running in" traction for the foam and rubber improves.
You may not be familiar with the "lint rollers" folks use during travel on their suits. But the roller is silicone because it can pick up stuff just by rolling over a surface. What happens with true silicone tires is that they pick up the rubber residue(and need constant cleaning). But to the rubber guys the track feels slipperier than they expect. What is happening is the opposite. Silies clean the track.
Modern "silicone" tires are not like vintage silicone. Usually either a different rubber, or filled out with inert fillers that do lead to wear on the modern stuff.

That is my new understanding, the old sillys "clean" the track like a lint roller. I never liked them back in the day - too "super ball" bouncy and if ya wrecked they "chunked to junk", Candies were too queer with the colors and marble look.
For me, Blue U-Go's seemed to be the best foam tires back then. Too bad the were not Black in color.
