OOPS!...I just saw that the Ms. Peel car is by none other than Sir John Dilworth! I feel honored to have a motor in one of his rides! I still don't remember or recognize the motor and have to assume it's an older one of mine...risky business!

Clearest explanation ever! Even in the 60's, that whole "silicones leave residue" seemed totally ridiculous to me. Another urban legend that wouldn't die.hi
Back in the 60s when commercial track racing transitioned from silicone(a huge subject by itself) and foam. The racers started promoting myths about the tires with little factual basis to ban the stuff they did not run.
The primary myth, one I was hearing from collectors well into the 90s, was that silicone leaves some sort of residue on the track that makes silicone not work!
Oddly, silicone tires were a bad business model product for the track. Effectively my survivors from the era have not shown measurable wear. I have a set on a car with glas Maserati 4clt body that I cast in '62 that mike out well inside .01 of the original casting size in '62! But I digress.
What happens is that the tires that WEAR, rubber and foam rubber leave bits of rubber on the track. After "running in" traction for the foam and rubber improves.
You may not be familiar with the "lint rollers" folks use during travel on their suits. But the roller is silicone because it can pick up stuff just by rolling over a surface. What happens with true silicone tires is that they pick up the rubber residue(and need constant cleaning). But to the rubber guys the track feels slipperier than they expect. What is happening is the opposite. Silies clean the track.
Modern "silicone" tires are not like vintage silicone. Usually either a different rubber, or filled out with inert fillers that do lead to wear on the modern stuff.

Yikes...that sidewinder 16D(?) looks deadly fast just sitting there. Add in the "just-this-side-of-wing-car" body and my Q-Tip wedge is freakin' doomed! Like Tony, Ms. Peel got my attention too I don't remember or recognize the motor though Jairus...is that an old car??? Who's the owner???

That chassis is an absolute work of art, magnificent, and a very cool body too.
The motor is a late (post 1969 and after the 5001 series) Mabuchi BB that was available in both balanced or unbalanced versions
The ones I have seen and have are packaged and sold by Champion of Chamblee
The unbalanced version was used in some other application with a cut down (reduced diameter) shaft (on the can side only) and a 64 pitch pinion installed, 10 tooth if my memory serves me korrect.
From the picture it looks like a S16D arm possibly Parma.
I would bet this motor will go the distance and you ARE looking at the winner if deemed legal.

Jairus:
Since we can send replacement parts, can we send a replacement car or do we need to finish with the car that started the proxy?

Oscar, while the motor can was apparently manufactured post '69, the technology that formed it was not. Plus with the Parma arm... I doubt it has any advantage over a Havlicek rewind in any other car. If Steve had asked me I would have told him prior. But today is the first time I have laid eyes on it and I see no problem running it as is. If it had cobalt magnets.... then yeah. I would send it packing.
Rob, is your's broken?

I told Foam to finish his but I think he may sit this one out...? Motors......? The point is not if they will be any faster, better or anything else, the point is the rules.

My "Haters" comment wasn't directed at you.
I agree with the motors. Otherwise Ralph should have been allowed to run his Slot.it powered entry. After all it's based off of a 13D.

Next time I'll ACad up a spring steel Eurosport style chassis and have it Lasered I knew I should have been one of the last to send my chassis in
BTW: I really don't care, I'm just having fun with these posts

I don't think there will ever be a set of rules that will suit everyone, and it's pretty simple really. The point is not if they will be any faster, better or anything else, the point is the rules.
If you like the rules, join in and have some fun, and accept what the rule maker decides.
If you don't like the rules, then don't join in as spoil the event for the others.
There will be plenty of other events with rules that you prefer.

Some used JK wheels.
A few picked a body that is not vintage or was not produced back in the day.
Quite a few have tiny non-vintage front wheels that look a bit like Pro-Slot Euro-Sport items.
A couple have motors that seem too powerful to fit with-in the rules but they and all above are allowed as far as I am concerned.
You know why? Because the spirit of "Thingies" is one of innovation and experimentation.
Even my car is wider than was accepted back in the day.
Is any of that wrong? No.
We have been talking about this race for 6 to 8 months now. Plenty of time to search out and read the racing threads posted here and on Slot Forum regarding past races to know what to expect. The one constant from 2005 to 2011 is: "the fewer the rules the better"!!!
It allows a little room for envelope pushing.
That said, any one car hanging behind.... we will figure out how to fix it!
Any one car that seems to "break out"... we will figure out how to fix it too...
To borrow a phrase from the movie "Pirates of the Caribbean": Hang the rules. They're more like guidelines anyway.
It's all about fun. And beer... and girls.... long as nobody brings a gun to this knife fight, we are all on fairly even ground.
Savvy?
To answer your question:
No, I am not afraid of "Wave Maker", because the "Repelatron Dyna-Slider" will make mincemeat out of that limey bugger!

Now that’s the spirit Jairus, talkin some good poop. "Repelatron" will make the "Wave Maker" look as smooth and flat as a frozen pond.
Mincemeat, is that the stuff ya eat right out of a can key-limey pie sounds better, can I get a peace?
but wait - you say Hang the rules and then add a new one - like knives are ok but now no guns allowed, or sump-in like dat. As previously disclosed Marvin is packing ray guns, will he have to come home?
I'll be hanging behind with my AllDyna-Bro's ya know the ones with the high points goin in. jus.. lookin for even ground and waiting to "Get Fixed".
No envelope pushing for me, just pushing chains up hill.

I didn't actually know there were rules for this game. I just opened my heart to the slot gods and plugged in the soldering iron.
Let 'em roll, Jairus!

John H- the arm in Dyna-Rigg is the one you recently wound for me to replace the one that died in the last Proxy (RIP the Green Manalishi..). But the original FT16-D can had the big gimbal bearing and wouldn't fit the only Dynamic motor mount I had, so I popped it in another FT-16 case with the small blind bushing. Everything else is the same. Big John Secchi gave the whole rigg a post-assembly check-over for me.

Hi John,
That explains why the motor didn't look familiar to me, although they all sorta blend together at this point anyway. Like I said though...I'm stoked to have made some small contribution to your entry. Here's hoping it does better for you this year!
