I have to weigh in on Rich's side with his comment. All the FK style motors are crap, IMHO, and I haven't raced one in over two years, and will never again participate in a hand-out motor race unless the hand-out is a 4002 American arm Puppy Dog. I have zero interest in highly questionable quality control standards on the Chinese motors. Dump 'em all, I say.

Ed's idea about tagged arms put into rebuildable cans sounds like a great plan to me! Why limit the "Retro" portion of the racing to only chassis building? We all used to build our own motors back in the day, no reason we couldn't do it again! And while I'm on a rant, I would prefer to get back to the real days of competitive slot racing, the "Retro" time period when we tossed aside those worthless inline chassis and built anglewinders that you could actually drive very fast. Those of you out there hankering to go a little bit faster--take your same parts, build an anglewinder, and watch your lap times drop.

Anyway, that's my ten cents worth, thanks for listening, and know that no matter where this thing comes out on the other side, I will still be there building and abiding by the rules in place. But maybe it's time the founders of IRRA took a step back and viewed it with a newly critical eye instead of being mired in the land of seven years ago in the parking lot, Times change. People change. And more than just a self-appointed Board of Directors might have some other opinions to contribute. I applaud their efforts, but let's think a little bit more out of the box, guys!

LMAO Part 2

But anglewinder racing is where the true competition lies.

I guess vintage car racing is out. Goodwood Revival, better set your track on fire.
If you have an old clunker in your garage, set fire to it too.
Oh, and IRRA and SCRRA and all the other retro organizations running those antique inline cars that are so much fun but apparently not kosher, jump out of the window from the second floor, you have no future. :)

Gentlemen,

Political opinions belong in Freeblog, OK?

The INLINE retro cars are just SO MUCH easier to build and tune for the average racer than anglewinders. At the upcoming SCRRA Summer Western Classic at Buena Park Raceway in Ca, of the 5 races, THREE will actually be anglewinders,  Retro Coupe, Retro 1/32nd and Retro Pro. However the number of racers will OVERWHELMINGLY favor the inline classes of F1 and Can Am.

FWIW, the lap record for number of laps on the BPR flat track is held by an inline Can Am car with Duran Trujillo running an amazing 315 laps one day. I think the anglewinder Coupes have ran 312. Not to bad for a tilty, slimy, pile. :)

This topic has drifted way too far off course and is in danger of being closed, if it doesn't veer back to the subject of post #1.

I agree with Bryan,

Inlines have come a LONG way in the last 4-5 years. Under 4 seconds on the MA King in CanAM AND F1 seems to me is moving right along. On Swiss's King you need to run 4.50 to have a chance at the A Main @ Da Sano now. Plenty fast in my mind. So many variations of design are possible that may not be possible with anglewinders. Also, if you can not build ( like me :) ) the cost of anglewinder would be a real issue. Inlines are a lot now from a quaility builder and anglewinder would be that much more because of the extra work involved. Let's leave well enough alone. Having said that, Retro Pro would be interesting for the speed crazies amoung us :good: !

This one is on topic. LOL.

I left a message with Jerry yesterday afternoon.

He got back to me earlier this morning and confirmed JK would definitely be making a submittal.

He added the two plus months we gave him, was plenty of time.

Now this brings up another item. If JK buys his new 65 turn motors from the same factory, how will one be able to know which is 65 turn and which is 60 turn?...................Same question for the new Trinity 65 turn motor?

I have always wondered why the little ladies never choose to represent themselves? You would think since their in the slot car business they would chime in rather than have someone who has nothing to do with the company be there spokesman.

Jerry already told me he would have the Hawk 65 made with a long shaft
on the EB side, which of course, if approved, we wouldn't let racers trim off.

I applaud the IRRA™ board for taking the initiative to solve the matter by finding an option or two.

It's part of why My Series gives racers the option of running a FK-style motor (Falcon 7 or Evil 9) or a 16D with a FLA16D armature.

BTW .... the recurring issue of Falcon 7 availability sure makes Jerry look like a pretty smart guy for not allowing his company to be held hostage by only using the Falcon 7 in his RTR's.  No wonder he chose to have the Hawk 7 produced.

Dear Johnny VW,

Johnny, There were only a couple of us running this PS 4002 Chinese motor and there was only contempt for us trying another source of approved power. With less turns, the PS 4002 Chinese motor developed less torque and developed its horsepower in a different rev band. The boards decision was to put in the worst kind of car (RETRO STOCK .....heavy and not aero) for this type of wind. I have and Noose has figured the gearing for most of the tracks and I have not had one go up in smoke 40 plus races on 3 different motors. Mine all have been rebuilt with screws and sealed by PRO SLOT an Irra certified Reman and I do not race for PRO SLOT.  If you haven't blown it up yourself, you do not know the tortures a motor has been exposed. Using this motor has taught me patience and pride....... for more racers are starting to use this motor and sharing info now. Yooze guyz with the tsr and f7 miss laps and have the (JOE MIG) coast , loudly cry to beat up the raceway programmer. I think choice of motors is one of the  answers to the trtsr/f7 dilemma on delivery of product.

George

Yah, and don't it really just chafe your boxers when that representative has better spelling and punctuation than some of us, and in his second language?
Lotsa disparate people in this world. Not every American is retarded, and not every mincing little snotty Froggy with an Agenda is Alexis de Toqueville.

And citing any individual to back up a generalized claim is weak Tabloid tactic, no matter who does it. This thread's about opening up the FK eligibility, not a deconstruction of the faults and failures of any-odd somebody NOT-us.

The submittal process has started. Nothing we can do now but survive. Let's begin.

Duffy, I have only a half of a clue to what you said... I think you're on to something tough.

My guess ... The Dokk is not in control of the sit-che-ation.. thus a lash. We have pride, we take exception to that remark. :treaten:

The motors will be 'what they be' and 'when they be' and IRRA's "gotta do what they gotta do"  to have motors to run. :hi:

BTW: I would rather measure a gun barrel in inches then not have one to measure in centimeters.  :shok: That would be moronic.

Metric makes life easier ... for those that grew up with it.

But ....  AWG is awesome. :bb:

Last time I looked at our track, it was the guide flag (has to be a black one) that triggered the lap counter.

We don't experience any issues with missed laps, regardless of what motor we race, but we live in the 21st Century out here in New Zealand :)  :)
