If that tab has a curve(hook)someone forgot to put it on these 2 ! Zipper, hats off to you for even being able to see let alone drill a hole in that tab ! Some of the chassis I'm posting I purchased for reference. It might seem strange but, I think they make great artworks hung over my bench.

Zipper's photo is a Champion chassis, rather than a drilled out Storm. If that tab breaks off, you can bend a replacement from .032 piano wire. That modification or the cotter pin & hole wouldn't have been legal where I ran a flexi.

Mark:

All of the Champion flexi chassis' have always had the tab with a hole for a cotter pin, they even came with the cotter pin.  I haven't looked at a RJR Storm chassis for years but as I recall they also came standard with the tab and hole just like the Champion chassis.

The latest flexi chassis' from JK and Mossetti use a similar tab and hole but they (there are two) are turned crossways and a "bite bar" of various diameters is used to secure the pans and provide tuning (i.e. more or less pan movement).

Jay, the Storm tab didn't have a hole for sticking things through.  :laugh2:  The way that chassis handled, not many ought to care. Some people don't realize how the cotter pin & hole on a Champion flexi  can be manipulated to effect handling.

Right you are Bill. That's why I always have slick-7 Teflon washers ! They make all the difference with the Astro-Turbo flexes.

Mark, the Flexi 3 works okay when set up properly. I have the solid & lightened steel pans, both work. I never tried the aluminum pans. Paul Ciccarello, a Parma factory racer at the time. said the aluminum pans worked well for oval racing, Push the pans all the way to the right, hold them there with tape, & add lead weight to the left side of the pans.

I never bought a Flexi 4 because the centersection easily bent at the narrow point in front of the motor. If you want setup info on Parma chassis, the best I've seen is by Paul Ciccarello posted on Old Weird Herald, I knowhe has  lengthy threads on the Flexi 1, 3, & 4. I don't recall if something is posted there about the Flexi 2 & 5 or not, If you really need good setup information for a Parma chassis, you need to spend some time reading these threads, Here's a link to OWH's Ask Paul Ciccarello forum.  Ask Paul Ciccarello (CLOSED - READ ONLY) (slotcartalk.com)  Paul was the USRA open wing car champion in the late 90's & has been racing RC cars for the last 10 yrs.

One of my favorites, heavy but,so easy to drive. As long as you set the torsion bars @.010 gap. It never occurred to me until just now that you could manipulate the gap for an oval or for a certain track. And those a-just-o bearings ,genius.

The flexi 3 with steel (solid or lightened) Pan's were no match for a tubo-flex. With the aluminum Pan's(solid) once you got knocked off and went into the wall they were at a right angle. In the instructions it says, the lightened ones should be used by people with skills Beyond Mortals, well not quite in those words. I couldn't find that site on weird Harold thank you for giving me a direct access to it. I found it the best setup information can be found right in the sheets they provide with the chassis.

I built Flexi 2s for my kids' flexi racing, Turbo Flexs for myself. Never used a Hot Wing on anything, but I might own one. I set a 4.5" Flexi 2 for racing on the trioval. With Flexi 1 pans it was okay but not great. I got a couple more 4.5 centersections to build better cars, but the trioval was taken out for a new road course. The Flexi 2 was good  until it bent in the right rear by the motor. They it would bend there easily again & again. There might be a factory Flexi setup article on another old website if you need it. Sometimes I can open it, sometimes I can't. This one is a 4.0 chassis with the normal Flexi 2 pans & a Hot Wing by a guy named Steve Koepp. This guy is also a great body painter.

Right as usual Bill. The flexi-2 was(is) a perfect(imo)starter car for beginners or kids. I forgot the Pan's were interchangeable, don't rember trying that. What did we forget? Hmmmmm, wait , I've got it ! I'll have to dig deeper for the next one.

John, the old Canadian site Slotside, that it was on, wouldn't open earlier today. This has been both available & not available recently, so I don't know what is going on there/. I'll try again tomorrow. I probably have a hard paper copy somewhere, but it might take me a week to find it.
